  • Great listening

Thoroughly enjoying listening to ScotPop, Allan has a genuine interest in what he presents with each guest, this comes through well in the dialogue - asking questions we all want to know rather than the norm. Bruce Watson’s episode is brilliant - I think Bruce always came across as a shy, quiet man - however, Allan was able to be subtle in his questioning technique to allow Bruce to feel relaxed and answer in his own way - a heart on the sleeve interview which Bruce discusses aspects of his BC ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Erin Reidy (Brontës) interview – 'We write our best songs when we're at our most vulnerable'
Q: What was the process like for creating the album, and how did you decide to release six songs initially and then add more?
The band started by writing six tracks in a focused period, then, encouraged by producer Stuart McCloud, they wrote four more to complete the album, eventually shifting from an EP plan to a full album release.
Erin Reidy (Brontës) interview – 'We write our best songs when we're at our most vulnerable'
Q: How did the band develop from there, and how did Brontës come together?
Erin explains how lineup changes over the years led to the four-piece setup, with Amelia and Eva joining, and the Brontës name inspired by feminist energy from the Brontë sisters, signaling a pairing of literary influence with music.
Erin Reidy (Brontës) interview – 'We write our best songs when we're at our most vulnerable'
Q: If I could just start off, Erin, can you remember the first Scottish band you saw live and the impact it had on you?
Erin recalls seeing the Proclaimers at Tea in the Park, which made a big impression and set the stage for her love of live Scottish music; the experience highlighted the communal energy of festivals and the excitement of seeing a band on a big stage.
Mike Scott (The Waterboys) interview – 'Simple Minds and U2 copped stuff from The Waterboys - especially U2'
Q: What inspired The Whole of the Moon and its longevity?
The inspiration was a personal and universal notion of wonder, a line about the Crescent and The Whole of the Moon that captured a feeling of discovery and possibility, which has kept the song resonant across generations.
Mike Scott (The Waterboys) interview – 'Simple Minds and U2 copped stuff from The Waterboys - especially U2'
Q: Did you feel pressure from labels to produce hits during the This Is the Sea era?
There wasn't intense pressure to produce hit after hit, but the label did push for a single they believed would be a big commercial success; I think The Whole of the Moon could have been handled differently to maximize impact.
