你們還記得嗎？雅各伯出了遠門。他的哥哥以掃想要報復，所以他逃走了，期待只要以掃的怒氣消了，他就能很快回來。他是一個喜歡待在帳棚裡的人，現在被迫離開家。 他很害怕，並不十分確定祖父亞伯拉罕和父親以撒的神會看顧他。他想：「我要一輩子這樣走下去嗎？我的夢想可以實現嗎？」就在他睡覺的時候，他感覺上帝在跟他說話：「去吧，我在這裡看著你，雅各，奮力戰鬥，你一定會成功的！」

雅各伯長大了，心裡想著：「我受夠了人家都說我是小的，只因為以掃是第一個從媽媽肚子裡出來的，就自以為比我重要。他成年以後就會被選為族長，而我可能什麼都沒有。這樣太不公平了！」

依撒格的故事是以色列人從巴比倫流亡歸來之後寫下的。你們還記得嗎？兩千六百年前，美索布達米亞的國王為了擴張領土，滅了猶大國。但是以色列人不願意像美索布達米亞人一樣生活，不願意接受他們的多神崇拜。後來，波斯（也就是現在的伊朗），祂的國王佔領了巴比倫，釋放了以色列的俘虜。有些人回家去了，有些選擇繼續留在他鄉生活。

日子一天天過去，有一天亞巴郎聽見神的召喚，又要他再作一個犧牲。神對他說：「亞巴郎，帶你的兒子以撒往我要指示你的山上去，把他獻給我。」亞巴郎清早起來，備上驢，帶著以撒和兩個僕人上路。
三天以後， 亞巴郎看見神指示他的地方，他跟僕人說： 「在這裡等我們。」以撒問：「父親，我們要獻祭的動物在哪裡？」亞巴郎回答：「神自己會預備。」

神對亞巴郎說：「你相信我，我選了你，要讓後世的所有人知道，應該如此行。你看，所多瑪的居民，還有蛾摩拉的，人們都說他們很惡劣、很壞。如果是這樣，這些城市應該被毀滅。」亞巴郎非常害怕，他問：「主啊，如果有人不是壞人，也不惡劣，你也都要消滅嗎？」神回答：「不，這些人可以不死。」

亞巴郎和撒萊老了。 他們信任上帝， 來到了新國度。但很可惜，那時他們都過了生孩子的年紀。待他們死後，誰來照顧這些羊群，繼承他們一輩子累積的財富？誰來紀念他們？
就在這時，亞巴郎聽到上帝的呼喚，跟他說：「不要憂慮，亞伯蘭，我會永遠與你同在。我一路支撐你來到這塊土地，讓你安居。我在飢荒中拯救你，保護了你最心愛的撒萊。我在戰爭中守護你，你表現了無比的勇氣。我完全相信你，你必有大大的賞賜！」
