  • Bitter

Matt’s Cruise Critic episode really turned me off. He has never been on Virgin Voyages and he has so much to say about it them and other cruise lines. Get over yourself. So one sided, which makes sense since this is the RCL Blog, but maybe don’t dedicate episodes to other lines then.

  • If you will

You can always tell the intelligence of someone by how many times they use this idiotic saying. Poor Matt uses it 100x an episode. Between that and the awful Caribbean music this podcast is a D. Would not recommend.

  • Always Great

The Royal Caribbean Blog with Matt Hochberg is very well done. Matt knows lots about travel, especially Royal Caribbean. Matt provides so very much information and insight into cruising. The podcast is helpful for new cruisers, seasoned cruisers, and everyone in between. 👍🏻👍🏻

  • Could be much better

While I appreciate the host and all he does the constant use of “if you will” doesn’t do well for his intelligence and the steel drum music is way too loud. Hire a producer!

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Things I do that surprise a lot of cruisers
Q: Jessica asked about Black Friday timing for best cruise savings.
Booking now is advised to lock in pricing, with Black Friday offering more on-board credits and add-ons rather than large cruise fare discounts; timing depends on final payment dates and re-pricing opportunities.
Things I do that surprise a lot of cruisers
Q: John Edwards asked about how to handle Crown Lounge access for a spouse with fewer points.
The host clarifies that a spouse can be granted access by linking accounts and converting status, but to reach Diamond Plus on their own would require earning points through cruising; the policy allows spousal status linkage for lounge access.
Things I do that surprise a lot of cruisers
Q: Brian asked about how points are retained when children turn 18 and how that affects Diamond status.
The host explains that children do not inherit cruise points, but a child can carry over the status through a parent's account; to move to Diamond Plus on their own, the child would need to accumulate enough points through cruising.
The best ports for walking off the ship, how kids & loyalty work, and more
Q: What are your top port destination suggestions globally where you can walk off the ship and be right in the middle of things to do?
The host suggests practical walk-off ports with strong shore-side accessibility, highlighting San Juan, Juneau, and several European ports as prime examples where guests can step ashore and find activities within easy reach, while noting some exceptions like Hamburg.
I Took 4 Royal Caribbean Cruises in 4 Months. Here’s What Surprised Me Most
Q: For an April birthday, is it better to splurge on Icon of the Seas with more new ports or save by choosing Harmony of the Seas with fewer new ports?
Icon of the Seas is a strong play for a birthday celebration due to its ship-wide activity and ports, but spending less is sensible if you value the ship experience; however, Icon generally offers a more novel, feature-rich experience.
