  • Bitter

Matt’s Cruise Critic episode really turned me off. He has never been on Virgin Voyages and he has so much to say about it them and other cruise lines. Get over yourself. So one sided, which makes sense since this is the RCL Blog, but maybe don’t dedicate episodes to other lines then.

  • If you will

You can always tell the intelligence of someone by how many times they use this idiotic saying. Poor Matt uses it 100x an episode. Between that and the awful Caribbean music this podcast is a D. Would not recommend.

  • Could be much better

While I appreciate the host and all he does the constant use of “if you will” doesn’t do well for his intelligence and the steel drum music is way too loud. Hire a producer!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

They Built a Treehouse on a Cruise Ship. Now Let’s Take It Further
Q: Dan Rabinovitz asked about GoPort from Orlando and the logistics of getting to the port.
GoPort provides a shuttle option from the airport to the port with a fixed price and a straightforward check-in process; it's presented as a convenient solution to avoid relying on rideshares and taxis, especially with kids.
They Built a Treehouse on a Cruise Ship. Now Let’s Take It Further
Q: Scott from Green Bay asked about gratuities and how they are distributed across crew members.
Gratuities go toward a crew fund and behind-the-scenes staff; they are not solely for frontline staff, and many factors influence how money is allocated; the system is complex and not perfectly aligned with how guests imagine it.
They Built a Treehouse on a Cruise Ship. Now Let’s Take It Further
Q: Deb Vierkamp asked about how MyTimeDining works and if a couple can dine earlier than 6:30 pm.
MyTimeDining starts around 6:30 pm with two options: reserved seating first and walk-ins seated second; there is a middle dining option with 5:00 or 5:30 seating adjustments, but you generally cannot book earlier than 6:30.
I don't understand why Royal Caribbean still does this
Q: If I have a Royal Caribbean Cruise Book for the two of us, and one of us can't make it, but they're not the lead passenger, will I be charged a solo price, or will I board as normal?
You'll board as normal; the policy does not charge a separate solo rate for a no-show partner, and you'll only lose the port fees and taxes for that person, so there's flexibility for changes.
Has Royal Caribbean gone too far with their casino change?
Q: Will Royal Caribbean cancel my booking if I find a price mistake?
It's unlikely, but they can cancel for any reason. If the price seems extremely low, there might be a risk. Working with a travel agent could help mitigate this risk.
