Reviews

4.9 out of 5 stars from 60 ratings
  • A true debate

I really like the podcast. But love to have couple episodes where it’s a true debate Justin believes this and chuck truly disagrees because most of them they believe the same and have to defend something they don’t believe to try to make an argument. Great podcast.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Grilling the Expert w/ Neahga Leonard (Cat Ba Langur Conservation)
Q: What motivated you to come to Vietnam and work with Cat Ba Langurs?
Neahga explains a desire to engage in conservation work beyond the US, drawn to a landscape-scale approach that considers species, habitat, and local communities.
Silly Justin, Trips are for Herps! w/ Brandon Valentine
Q: What do you think is the main downside of chasing only one thing—does it make you miss a lot of the rest of the environment?
Focusing on a single target can cause you to miss other interesting wildlife and experiences, but it also concentrates effort efficiently, so you optimize the chances of finding that target at the right time and place.
Silly Justin, Trips are for Herps! w/ Brandon Valentine
Q: So what side do you want to take? You want to take it's a good thing to do mixed trips, or it's better to do a single focus trip?
The pro for a single-focus trip is that you can lock in timing and target-specific conditions, making you more efficient at finding what you came for, while a mixed trip offers a mental break and the potential for pleasant bycatch and broader experience.
Grilling the Expert w/ Christopher Brown DVM
Q: How should keepers think about UVB in reptile enclosures?
UVB needs are species-specific; some reptiles may benefit from UVB while others do not require it, and excessive UVB can cause keratitis and other issues. It's important to tailor lighting and heating to the species and context rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach.
Grilling the Expert w/ Christopher Brown DVM
Q: What are the practical realities of diagnostics for reptiles in clinical settings?
Table-side tests are not common for reptiles; most diagnostics are performed in specialized labs (e.g., UF) and require collaboration with diagnostic teams, making it a team effort rather than a sole clinic activity.
