因為家庭帶給他複雜的感受、喜愛學習的他又因現實而遭逢失學之苦，內心百感交集他在媽媽的邀請下，第一次來到真耶穌教會。當洪順光長老看見傳道人在黑板上寫著「人從哪裡來」，他十分不以為意的心想：「教科書上有寫，人是猴子變的。」聚會開始，傳道人即針對達爾文的進化論說道：「進化，是不斷的提升，才是進化。人如果是猴子變的，那為什麼現在的猴子都不會變成人了呢？從有歷史以來，為什麼沒有任何文獻記載，哪些猴子變成人、領了身分證呢？」這樣的見解，讓洪長老十分驚訝。 （艾芙菈 摘要）
從小在真耶穌教會家庭中成長，出外工作後，他逐漸忘記自己原是一位基督徒。那年，台灣正風行遠洋漁業，他也搭上了前往南美洲捕魷魚的漁船。那天，他與同事一同放網，網中的魚鈎鉤住了他的手指，因為漁網與船前進的力量，他跟著漁網一同掉進了汪洋大海，因低溫而著的防寒裝備吸了水，變得沉重……。（艾芙菈 摘要）
