  • Great podcast!!

Just discovered this podcast and it’s great! Love the format, beginning with really diving into the guests’ accomplishments, then punishing them by making them rank the songs in their favourite albums.

  • Love it

This podcast is fantastic. Ben and Wayne bring great analysis and banter. The format works wonders because even if the guest is shy promoting their own material, they always open up when it comes to discussing the music they love. You can sense their passion. And by having the guest choose the record, it covers classics and things you may not have previously heard. Can’t recommend highly enough.

PS if you avoid episodes about records with political songs, you will avoid the political discussion... more

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 400: Episode 400: Uncle Tupelo’s “Anodyne” with Matt Woods, Seth Gill & Jason Earle
Q: Why is Anodyne considered such a pivotal album in alt-country?
Because it blends traditional country influences with raw, modern rock sensibilities, and the songwriting duo of Farrar and Tweedy created tracks that feel both authentic to roots music and forward‑looking, which helped define alt-country and inspired many bands afterward.
Episode 397: Episode 397: Speech of Arrested Development discusses Drake's "Nothing Was the Same"
Q: Tell us what record you chose to revisit for your episode.
Speech explains the choice of Nothing Was The Same, noting its moody production and Drake's narrative approach as a defining moment in his career.
Episode 396: Episode 396 - Graham Parker discusses "Howlin' Wind"
Q: When did you decide Howlin Wind would name the album?
Parker explains that the title Howlin Wind represented his reinvention and the arc of the album from his early psychedelic influences toward a more direct, songcraft-focused approach.
Episode 396: Episode 396 - Graham Parker discusses "Howlin' Wind"
Q: What exactly is White Honey?
White Honey was a wordplay-influenced title inspired by swing and soul influences; Parker describes it as a time when he was crafting songs with a pop-soul sensibility, with a melody that emerged from associative wordplay.
Episode 385: Episode 385: Sons of Sevilla discuss J.J. Cale’s “Naturally”
Q: What are some of your influences?
We like a lot of Rodriguez, and we listen to quite a lot of older 70s stuff.
