  • Easy Listening…

Love turning this on to zone out. Sade and Jeanne are excellent together. The topics are geared more toward writing, but most anyone in the arts would appreciate this one!

Hey I really enjoyed this episode- very entertaining and thought provoking. My writing partner and I just wrote a script and I would have loved a little more direction on where to locate partner specific contracts/agreements with WGA. Maybe even a link😘

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

He's Back! Phil Stark, Writer of 'Dude, Where's My Car?" on How to Be a Screenwriter
Q: When you were writing this book, what was your favorite chapter to write?
The dog metaphor chapter stood out, but Stark emphasizes reminiscing about his breaking-in experiences, especially the South Park story, because it beautifully illustrates the unpredictable mix of luck, talent, and hard work that fuels a screenwriting career.
Writer/Director Thom Harp on Finding the Ridiculousness in Life ... and Writing About It
Q: Can you share a mentorship moment that shaped your approach to budget and storytelling?
Lynn Shelton advised leaning into your strengths and being practical about production design—limit locations, maximize space, and cast people who fit the world you're building—so the film remains intimate, affordable, and true to its vision.
Writer/Director Thom Harp on Finding the Ridiculousness in Life ... and Writing About It
Q: What role did improvisation play in the narrative podcast work and how did it inform your approach on a filmed project?
The project was largely scripted but allowed 20-30% improvisation. This balance kept the world alive while ensuring a cohesive story, and it taught me how to cast people who can play and surprise within a solid framework.
Writer/Director Thom Harp on Finding the Ridiculousness in Life ... and Writing About It
Q: How did you approach keeping Home Delivery on a budget while still delivering a rich, character-driven story?
I leaned into strengths, chose a single, meaningful location, and structured the process so the environment itself could be a character. I also prioritized the right cast and let them bring unexpected life to the material rather than forcing a preconceived, expensive setup.
JDIFF Executive Director Susan Gorrell: Making a Film Festival Plan ... and Winging It
Q: What is the best way to present yourself to a film festival as a filmmaker?
Susan emphasizes a fair, well-documented submission process: read cover letters, present your project clearly, and understand that the project quality and fit to the festival criteria ultimately decide selection, even if connections help or alumni submissions come through.
