  • Great way to get local news!

I value staying informed about local news but am not often near a radio during the day. This podcast is a great way to keep up with what’s happening around the Bay Area and state! Now I wonder how I ever made it through the day without The California Report! :)

  • Really appreciate this!

Great way to get news from KQED without having to listen to the ubiquitous clips of Trump misinformation/disinformation played on NPR News.

I trust the reporting and appreciate the relevance.

  • huh?

i mean this is what the radio is… or is that too old fashioned & they needed to repackage it for people *shrugs*

  • Poorly designed

They offer exactly one podcast at a time which might contain multiple broadcasts or not. This means you can miss things AND you will have to listen to the same story multiple times. A much better format would be to place each broadcast or even each story in its on podcast in the feed. Then I will hear all the stories no matter when they were broadcast and won’t have to listen to the same story multiple times

  • Nice mix of interesting

They discuss all kinds of interesting topics. For example, I just listened to a discussion about Formula E cars which are the future of race cars - using electric engines.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Bay Area Hosts Its Last World Cup Game, Michael Pollan Explores Consciousness in New Book
Q: So, it was your examination and experience of psychedelics that ignited your curiosity about consciousness?
Pollan confirms that personal psychedelic experiences, along with philosophical ideas like Nagel's What Is It Like to Be a Bat, sparked his interest in the nature of consciousness and its subjective aspect.
What to Expect for This Year's Fire Season, What Happened to All the Tree Frogs?
Q: So, Daniel, first off, what can we expect for this year's fire season?
The long-term outlook suggests above-normal fire danger in the northern half of the Bay Area region and normal to mildly elevated risk elsewhere, with the ultimate ground reality depending on El Niño's exact influence and local weather patterns.
Where Do All the Bay Area's Illegal Fireworks Come From?, Local Teens Reflect on America's Future
Q: So where are all those fireworks coming from?
Darwin Bond-Graham explains that investigators linked a recent Oakland raid to a larger pattern of supply chains where individuals advertise large quantities of fireworks on social media, then conduct in-person sales, often evading local bans.
Immigration Attorney Stopped and Searched by SFO, SF Giants Pride Night Fallout Amplifies
Q: What impact do you think this targeting has on your work and the profession at large?
Panelists indicate that such targeting intimidates staff and lawyers, disrupts client confidentiality, and pressures professionals to adapt to a more hostile environment, while emphasizing resilience and continued advocacy in courts.
Immigration Attorney Stopped and Searched by SFO, SF Giants Pride Night Fallout Amplifies
Q: Can you begin by running through what happened at SFO on June 10th?
The interviewee describes arriving at the airport, facing an intensified screening after a facial recognition check failed, being escorted by TSA, and being told he was on a watch list, which led to a sensory-heavy pat-down and security procedures, followed by ongoing questions about his work and potential connections to government actions.
