  • Disappointed

I enjoyed Mike in another podcast and I was excited to see that he has his own series. I found the first two episodes to be very boring. I will be unsubscribing.

  • Repetitive

I’ve only been listening to the show for the past two months, but every single episode is about Nancy Guthrie l’s abduction. There’s nothing else going on in the world? I understand it’s a big news story, but why so much attention paid to this one kidnapped woman when kidnapping happens by the dozens, daily? The first two or three or 10 episodes highlighting her case were fascinating, but by the 100th episode, yeah, I’m ready to move on.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Why TRAUMA Memories Come Back in Pieces, with Dr. Judy Ho | Profiling Evil
Q: Well, Dr. Ho, when a survivor has a moment where one small sensory detail becomes the picture snap that brings everything into focus, what's really going on in the brain and in the nervous system?
Trauma can disrupt memory formation during the event, so recall often comes in fragments; sensory details awaken larger pictures later as the brain tries to reconstruct what happened, sometimes using mundane cues in the environment that were present at the time.
Is Keeping This Job Worth LOSING Your Mind?! | Profiling Evil
Q: Could you explain why you shifted from using the term brainwashing to undue influence and how your bite model fits with current laws and trafficking frameworks?
Undue influence is a long-standing legal concept, but it didn't fully capture psychological manipulation, so I developed the bite model to quantify how groups control people. I also align this with trafficking laws and Lifton's brainwashing concepts to create a framework that can be studied quantitatively, showing how authoritarian control operates in various contexts.
Rex Heuermann Pleads Guilty, What Long Island Serial Killer Admission Really Means | Profiling Evil
Q: What was the significance of the FBI Behavioral Science Unit interview and profile work in this case?
Law enforcement used profiling discussions to extract additional details from Heuermann, leveraging his ego to reveal more about crime methods and victimology.
Rex Heuermann Pleads Guilty, What Long Island Serial Killer Admission Really Means | Profiling Evil
Q: Why would Heuermann plead guilty without a death penalty, and what did that mean for appeals?
The plea laid out life sentences without the possibility of appeal, clearly signaling a desire to end the legal fight and potentially limit later disclosures, while avoiding a lengthy trial.
Rex Heuermann Pleads Guilty, What Long Island Serial Killer Admission Really Means | Profiling Evil
Q: What did the crowd look like and how big was the turnout for the guilty plea?
The crowd was substantial, with about 150 press members and many family members, showing how high-profile the case was and the public interest in the plea.
