  • After hearing his incredible insight on the Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw pro wrestling podcast, I checked out Tony Richards' podcast, Pro Wrestling Time Tunnel.

This podcast delivers more of the same as his appearances elsewhere: incredibly detailed historical breakdowns of specific eras of Territorial pro wrestling in the US.

With few exceptions, each episode features an interview with another expert on the episode's topic.

Tony's enthusiasm is a huge part of this pod's greatness!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 56: 1976 Territory Review, St. Louis, Missouri
Q: Why was Terry Funk able to win the title in St. Louis, and how did fans react to a new champion after so many years with Dory Funk Jr. and Jack Briscoe?
The host explains that Funk's victory was part of a deliberate booking strategy by Sam Mushnick to refresh storylines; fans were initially shocked but over time accepted and followed the evolving narratives that connected St. Louis with the broader NWA world title scene.
Episode 63: 1976 Territory Review: Gulf Coast Championship Wrestling
Q: How did TV scheduling and local station changes affect attendance and interest?
Shifting time slots, moving shows to different channels, and taping live events created inconsistent viewing, which damaged audience retention and made it harder to sustain steady live gate revenue.
Episode 63: 1976 Territory Review: Gulf Coast Championship Wrestling
Q: What were the key factors in the decline of the Gulf Coast Territory in 1976?
The decline was driven by the loss of television coverage, aging talent, internal conflicts among bookers, and strategic missteps in leadership and market focus, which reduced audience reach and long-term viability.
Episode 57: Wrestlemania 42 Week
Q: What caused you to want to start the Memphis wrestling podcast?
John Mayer McCall explains a nudge from a longtime friend sparked the idea, tying his passion for Memphis wrestling to a format that could preserve memories and tell honest stories.
Episode 53: 2026 Mailbag Episode 1
Q: Is there anything that could have been done to avoid the NWA's downfall after the retirement of Sam Musnick as the president?
The hosts discuss the lack of a clear, mentored successor and how personalities, internal politics, and media/business infrastructure failures contributed to the decline, suggesting better succession planning and stronger leadership development might have stabilized the organization.
