No Such Thing ProductionsPrimordial Deep is science fiction action/thriller, set in the expanded universe of Janus Descending. When a long extinct sea creature washes up on the shores of Coney Island, marine biologist Dr. Marella Morgan is contacted by a secret organization to investigate the origins of the creature’s sudden and unnatural resurgence. Soon, she and a team of explorers find themselves living on the research station The Tiamat, traveling along the abyssal plains as they search for answers far below the waves. But there are dangers in these ancient waters. Reawakened prehistoric monsters are rising from the deep -- jaws wide and waiting, and in the darkness, something is stirring.

The production values & voice acting are solid, but overall the storyline takes itself far too seriously without having the in-world logic to back it up. I will admit, I have a pet-peeve about science-heavy podcasts that don’t do their actual science homework - there are viable work arounds for this, but instead I felt asked again & again to suspend my disbelief in silly ways & it got old really fast. From the captivating score to the brilliant writing, acting and sound design, everything about Primordial Deep is pitch perfect. The narration draws you into the calm waters of the story… and before you know it you’re ears deep in terrifying ocean creatures. Primordial Deep feels like a lost Michael Crichton novel and I mean that in the best and most complimentary way possible. Terrific season, makes for a perfect weekend marathon listen.
