4.2 out of 5 stars from 1.7k ratings
  • Thorough examinations & interesting perspectives

Not sure why these some of these reviews are calling her Trumpy. She’s very progressive and rips on conservative politics in every episode (respectfully and with receipts). Yes, she deservedly criticizes the largely catatonic Democratic Party at times too. But her takes are liberal, pro-freedom, and pro-democracy. We must be able to criticize our government no matter who is in power.

Taylor is thoughtful and the topics she discusses are important. She invites credible, interesting guests and I ... more

  • Obsessed with smartphones in an unhelpful way

Feels like she’s gotten a little obsessed with the idea that smartphones (and everything related) are *never* a problem. I agree that the proposed laws against social media use have a tonnnn of issues and shouldn’t be passed, but can we say that without dismissing that some effects of smartphones are harmful? It hurts her argument to insist that social media and smartphones are nothing but positive, bc that premise goes against most people’s lived experience …so it makes you question the whole a... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

They're Putting AI Cameras In School Busses
Q: Is it just recording and deleting files, or is the AI actively detecting threats and monitoring driver behavior?
The system is pitched as increasing safety with alerts for drowsiness and inattention, but concerns persist about data being uploaded, stored remotely, and used for purposes beyond immediate safety, including potential training of models.
The Rise of Celebrity Clone Conspiracies w/ Will Sommer
Q: All right. So I want to unpack this Jim Carrey conspiracy—what makes these clone narratives take hold on platforms like TikTok and X, and why do they resonate with audiences?
Will Sommer explains that these conspiracies thrive when people feel a need to make sense of subtle differences in appearances, aging, and plastic surgery, then amplify via crowdsourced analysis and viral content. The phenomenon is driven by a mix of nostalgia, distrust of elites, and the ease of sharing and remixing content online, which creates a collaborative investigation that feels like uncovering hidden truths.
How Epstein Shaped The Internet w/ Ryan Broderick
Q: Were Epstein and his circle directly involved in movements like Occupy Wall Street or Gamergate?
The discussion outlines connections and investigations suggesting meetings and influence with figures like Steve Bannon and others, but also notes that direct, explicit links vary in confidence; the broader pattern is infiltration into hacker cultures and political discourse.
How Epstein Shaped The Internet w/ Ryan Broderick
Q: So can you sort of walk me through Jeffrey Epstein's initial impact online? What was he up to in the early days of the web, in the 2000s?
Ryan Broderick explains Epstein's early presence on MySpace, attempts to scrub his search results, and how his activities laid groundwork for a broader 'shadow industry' around online manipulation and surveillance.
Everything You Know About Algorithms Is A Lie: Section 230 Algorithm Problem Explained
Q: So to start off, how do you describe Section 230 to other people in layman's terms?
Section 230 says websites aren't liable for what third parties publish, while the author remains liable for their own content; downstream platforms aren't liable for that content, which creates space for hosting and distributing user-generated material.
