  • Claude Clarification

Claude was not used in bombing the Iranian school. That was Maven, a machine learning driven targeting tool that is semi-autonomous and still involves humans to update it with accurate data. The database was outdated and that negligence resulted in a war crime. Not all AI is generative AI. Please educate yourself before making these false statements. The Guardian did a great article on the Iranian school bombing.

  • Smart stuff on the whole.

Generally great and on point but way WAY off exculpating smartphones of any blame for our modern ills when they play such an obvious and data-backed part.

  • Thorough examinations & interesting perspectives

Not sure why these some of these reviews are calling her Trumpy. She’s very progressive and rips on conservative politics in every episode (respectfully and with receipts). Yes, she deservedly criticizes the largely catatonic Democratic Party at times too. But her takes are liberal, pro-freedom, and pro-democracy. We must be able to criticize our government no matter who is in power.

Taylor is thoughtful and the topics she discusses are important. She invites credible, interesting guests and I ... more

  • Obsessed with smartphones in an unhelpful way

Feels like she’s gotten a little obsessed with the idea that smartphones (and everything related) are *never* a problem. I agree that the proposed laws against social media use have a tonnnn of issues and shouldn’t be passed, but can we say that without dismissing that some effects of smartphones are harmful? It hurts her argument to insist that social media and smartphones are nothing but positive, bc that premise goes against most people’s lived experience …so it makes you question the whole a... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Elon Musk’s Final Plan: A Dangerous Blueprint For World Domination
Q: What about his move into Tesla and this persona that he develops—especially in the late aughts and early 2010s?
He was framed as a genial innovator, but the underlying dynamic is using government support, national security narratives, and war-on-terror era logic to normalize private ambitions into a broader, monopolistic frontier strategy.
Elon Musk’s Final Plan: A Dangerous Blueprint For World Domination
Q: As we all probably know by now, Elon Musk grew up in South Africa. When do you think his ideology started to emerge?
Part of our argument is that part of it emerges in South Africa itself, but the more decisive evolution happens later as he leverages state backstops and frontier tech to scale his ventures, shaping a broader, techno-nationalist stance.
Silicon Valley Is Losing Control w/ Brian Merchant
Q: But what's ultimately driving this anti-tech backlash? And what does it ultimately reveal about our evolving relationship with technology?
Brian Merchant points to a mix of rapid adoption, sensational media coverage, and corporate storytelling that exaggerates both existential risk and benefits, arguing that public anger stems from a sense of anti-democratic control and the fear of being left behind without say in how technology is deployed.
Stop Feeling Helpless About AI: The Violent History of Resisting Technology
Q: How do you differentiate between productive resistance and harmful or reactionary movements in today's AI landscape?
Productive resistance considers the broader political economy, labor, and social impacts rather than mere technophobia; it emphasizes collective organizing and structural change over individual abstention, while remaining wary of conspiratorial or reactionary tendencies that can exploit anxieties around AI.
Stop Feeling Helpless About AI: The Violent History of Resisting Technology
Q: What did the earliest resistance to technology look like, and who did you start with in your study?
I began in ancient Greece with Archimedes, highlighting how early inventors sometimes sought to dismantle their own creations to prevent misuse, and then expanded to medieval religious orders who feared technology could supplant divine authority.
