  • International focus

Most climate podcasts cover what we can do personally to fight climate change or focus only on the US. This one covers what is really needed to make a difference—global coordination and government action. The conversations have a ton of useful information and I can understand it as a non-expert!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The cost to jobs and public health from the EPA rollbacks (Episode 30)
Q: Could you give us some numbers on the actual implications for workers?
The episode discusses hundreds of thousands of jobs in the EV supply chain and manufacturing, including job losses from plant closures and reduced investments, which the rollback may exacerbate, potentially impacting both current employment and long-term industry growth.
How the war on Iran exposes global economic interconnectedness (Episode 29)
Q: What are the broader implications for renewables and energy investments in this context?
Higher fossil fuel prices could spur some renewables investment, but overall investment patterns will be uneven: Europe and East Asia may increase green investments while the US may see continued or increased fossil fuel activity in the short term due to policy and market dynamics.
How the war on Iran exposes global economic interconnectedness (Episode 29)
Q: Even if the hostilities end soon, will oil markets normalize quickly or remain pressured for some time?
Markets are likely to stay pressured for a while, with potential four-week normalization but not a full recovery given ongoing disruptions and limited spare capacity in LNG and refining.
How the war on Iran exposes global economic interconnectedness (Episode 29)
Q: Please give us an overview of how the war in the Middle East is affecting oil and LNG markets, and where you see trends heading in the near term.
The war has caused the largest disruption in oil markets with substantial volumes passing through the Strait of Hormuz; prices have risen and strategic reserves have been released to buffer the impact, but normalization will take weeks and depends on how the conflict evolves and refinery capacity.
Are data centers driving up utility costs? (Episode 27)
Q: What are practical strategies for data centers to mitigate their impact on the grid and on consumer prices?
Data centers are increasingly pursuing on-site generation backed by regulated tariffs and long-term contracts to ensure grid stability; the approach is to separate their local generation from the broader grid expansion while maintaining reliability.
