  • Grounding and inspiring

Hearing poets read their work reveals to me how much poetry and painting have in common. I listen for inspiration and to ground myself in what’s real before working in my studio; thank you for this wonderful content.

  • Poets are comrades!

Listen to poetry here if you have a hard time putting into words just how much you hate capitalism, and know that it must be expressed in the form of a poem instead!

  • A pocket of infinity to start my day

These last couple of days in February 2023, I’ve started by reading the email of the poem, and then clicking the links to the poet biographies, and then the recordings. When they strike me down my center, they are delicious. I love making my mornings big and poems can do this, not just for me, but maybe for you, too.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Guest Editor Interview: May 2026 Guest Editor Hala Alyan
Q: How do you approach curating Poema Day for May?
I start by loosening strict criteria and focusing on a combination of instinct, personal connection to the work, and a balance of established and emerging voices, letting the poems themselves guide the connective tissue rather than forcing a rigid theme.
Thomas Centolella: "Cynthia Wanders My Neighborhood"
Q: What is this poem about?
The poem invites reflection on memory and loss through a mythic lens, juxtaposing the living memory of a person with the legend of Eurydice and Orpheus, while tracing the speaker's emotional history and the enduring impact of love and mortality.
Guest Editor Interview: April 2026 Guest Editor Dorianne Laux
Q: How did you approach curating PoemaDay for National Poetry Month?
I started with a personal list of poets I love, including former students and peers, then refined it by looking at past PoemaDay editions to see different angles and what the series seeks.
Guest Editor Interview: March 2026 Guest Editor Danusha Laméris
Q: What are you currently working on in your writing?
I am writing new poems slowly but surely and also running an online community for poets.
Guest Editor Interview: March 2026 Guest Editor Danusha Laméris

Litfield is a poetry-specific community that fosters a safe space for sharing works and includes Q&As with poets I admire.
