Essentially shaming him for his past & painting him in a bad light because of his past indiscretions…exactly what the tobacco company did to Russell Cro... more
Refreshing to listen to a non-celebrity podcast....as if celebrities have more of a right to spread their opinion to hold a podcast than others.
Most recent Up episode: one of the guests had DREADFUL audio!! Please don’t let anyone use ear buds!!!! So hard on the ears to want to keep listening. We’ll see if I make it through.
Look forward to listening to Phil, Emily and guests every Friday before work. True chemistry is hard to come by, not to mention smart, thoughtful criticism. The 2000s series is splendid. Keep it up.
Good movie podcast that watches deep cuts. Extra points for Phil’s reflexive masculinity.
That’s all. I keep coming back. Phil’s unreflexive masculinity keeps pushing me away.

This show tends to center on deep-dives into late-90s to early-2000s cinema, with a strong emphasis on auteur-era discussions, behind-the-scenes trivia, and context about production, marketing, and reception. Hosts anchor conversations with guest critics and industry writers, often connecting films to broader cultural moments, genre trends, and the era's technology and media landscape. A notable strength is its rigorous, expansive approach to film history paired with informal, collaborative banter that makes complex topics approachable. The show stands out for its rotating lineup of guest critics and writers who bring diverse perspectives from journalism, screenwriting, and animation, enriching discussions beyond surface-level analysis.
