  • Mean Girl / Mean Guy Takes

I've only listened to their Gilded Age coverage. I really liked it at first, but starting with the season 1 finale and moving into season two, both hosts had some bizarre takes on sensitive issues that made me really uncomfortable. When I expressed this on Spotify, my comments were unpublished, and then I was blocked from seeing any comments or adding comments. I guess they didn't like having their own words repeated back to them in writing. Do not recommend.

  • A friend recommended this to me. Love it.

I caught the first episode of Shogun, and a friend recommended I check out this podcast, which was a great idea. You can tell their knowledge and passion for entertainment, and listening to them is a lot of fun.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Decorating the Set (Director and Producer, Frederick E. O. Toye)
Q: What are your thoughts on AI as a tool in filmmaking?
Fred says AI is a tool that should be used carefully and should not replace human creativity; the industry must balance technological advances with the human element and maintain the craft and humanity that audiences expect.
Decorating the Set (Director and Producer, Frederick E. O. Toye)
Q: What makes a successful director in today's streaming era compared to the old network model?
He describes the shift toward block shooting and longer commitments, which improve consistency and allow crews to build a shared language. He also notes that directors must dovetail into a show's DNA while bringing their cinematic sensibilities without disrupting the core vision.
Decorating the Set (Listener Q&A)
Q: What is your best advice on color in 2026?
Color should be seen as a cost-effective tool to shift the room's energy; look to nature for inspiration, embrace color to create mood, and avoid over-saturation by reserving bold hues for key walls or accents to unify a space with character.
Episode 2: Book Club Meets Movie Night (The Thursday Murder Club - The Movie)
Q: Did you feel like there were anything that you were actually worried for our characters?
I watched this twice in preparation of doing this. My experience both times was the same. The stakes could not have been lower.
Episode 2: Book Club Meets Movie Night (The Thursday Murder Club - The Movie)
Q: Did this scratch the itch sufficiently for you?
I would say that I didn't feel the urgency and the pressure that I usually like to feel when I'm trying to solve a murder.
