笠間市は東京から車で2時間半ほど。今の季節は栗の花の香りや若葉が美しく、のんびり散策するのにぴったりです。笠間稲荷神社の参道には、お狐様やお社を売るお店が並び、赤い鳥居が新緑に映えていました。境内には樹齢400年ともいわれる「オニグルミ」の御神木があり、縄文時代から続く自然の歴史を感じさせてくれます。一方、お稲荷様は稲作と結びついた弥生時代の信仰。笠間には縄文と弥生、二つの時代の物語が重なっているんですね。参道で見つけた小さな稲荷寿司には、そのオニグルミが入っていて、お米との相性も抜群。甘くて香... more

以前から訪れたいと思っていた宇治を訪ね、宇治橋断碑をみました。宇治橋断碑は日本現存最古級の石碑の一つで、大化の改新の翌年である646年に架けられた宇治橋を記念して建てられました。現在は三分の一ほどしか残っていませんが、宇治橋建立の記録は複数の歴史資料にも残されており、古代から交通の要衝だった宇治の歴史を今に伝えています。碑文には、流れの速い宇治川を渡れず人々が困っていたため橋が架けられたことが記されています。橋は人と人、場所と場所を結ぶ存在です。一方で宇治は茶どころとしても知られています。宇治の... more
