鈴鹿の名物といえば「椿こんにゃく」。
こんにゃく芋の名産地は群馬県ですが、鈴鹿では名産ではなく“名物”として親しまれてきました。鈴鹿川の清らかな水は、こんにゃくのアク抜きに最適。鈴鹿市の椿大神社の信仰と結びつき、「椿」の名が付いたこんにゃくは、旅人たちの腹持ちの良い食として愛されてきました。伊勢へ向かう参詣道の途中、鈴鹿越えを前に力を蓄える。その実用性が、名物としての歴史を育てたのです。
