  • WOW, I wish this existed when I was in high school!!!

I actually had to study The Tempest in college and altho we had a really fun professor and it was a great time, we still had to read the whole book for class. I wish I had this then or back in high school, I think I would have appreciated Shakespeare way moreeee than I did!! I think this is entertaining BUT also a very useful study tool! Thank you for creating the showww!! <3

  • Beautiful storytelling

This show is so well-made! The acting, the soundscape, the stories. I’m a big theater fan but don’t get the chance to go to plays as often as I wish. Play On is always there and really never disappoints!

  • 4675 stars!!!

Amazing sound, acting that will knock your socks off, Play On! is the best modern interpretation of Shakespeare I’ve come across. I cannot believe all I have to do is hit play on Play On! To have the theater brought to my ears! Should be taught in schools. With I had it when I was in high school.

Q: What would you say is the most surprising or counterintuitive thing that your research has revealed about Shakespeare and the artist that most people who only know him from the plays would expect to discover?
Shakespeare was deeply connected to his family and lived as a real, everyday person; understanding his life beyond the plays reveals a human, relational side that informs the vitality and urgency of his work, which often gets overlooked when focusing solely on the text.
Bonus Content - Professor Richard Burt
Q: What is your view on AI and its role in film and theatre?
I am cautious about AI because it can reduce processes to efficiency at the expense of deep reading and learning, but I'm not categorically opposed to examining how it can be used responsibly in production or post-production contexts.
Bonus Content - Professor Richard Burt
Q: How do updated productions or modern settings affect your view of Shakespeare's work?
I think anything goes if it works; modern settings can illuminate themes in new ways, and I evaluate productions based on whether they reveal why the plays are compelling rather than simply honoring tradition.
Bonus Content - Professor Richard Burt
Q: When you teach Shakespeare, are you teaching with dictionaries and lexicon tools or asking students to put it in their own words?
Yes, there is a balance between using lexicons to understand the language and guiding students to perform and interpret the text, because performance reveals nuances that text alone often cannot.
Cymbeline - Bonus Content Episode 3 - Audio Engineer Larry Walsh - Pt. 1
Q: Can you explain what you mean by syncing picture to sound and how that process worked in the early days?
You start with a digitized picture and a mapped frame rate, then you digitize the reels, align audio to the picture using frames and feet as timing references, and adjust when the timing is off to keep the audio in sync with the film.
