  • Sam Harris triggers up you, not the other way around

Paul —you’re fantastic, you strawman Sam Harris and don’t understand the most basic things he talks about. Before you get triggered discussing him again, talk to Sam or someone who gets it. You just sound silly to people who get Sam when you try to execute a takedown like in your most recent podcast.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Bart Ehrman Doesn't Believe Jesus is the Son of God but Wants His Neighbors to Act Like They Do
Q: How does Ehrman's view of suffering influence his stance on the existence of God and the problem of evil?
Ehrman argues that suffering challenges the traditional theistic picture of an all-powerful, benevolent God, leading him to a position where belief in such a God is unlikely, while still recognizing the powerful moral and existential resonance of Jesus' teachings.
Bart Ehrman Doesn't Believe Jesus is the Son of God but Wants His Neighbors to Act Like They Do
Q: What should readers, Christian or otherwise, take away from the argument about the Western moral tradition and the role of Jesus?
The host suggests that Jesus' teachings about love for the neighbor and the stranger played a pivotal role in shaping Western moral consciousness, but that these ideas have been absorbed and secularized across cultures, sometimes detachably from their religious roots.
Bart Ehrman Doesn't Believe Jesus is the Son of God but Wants His Neighbors to Act Like They Do
Q: Is Ehrman's subscription to a liberal, humanistic reading of Christian ethics compatible with the historical realism he applies to the New Testament?
Ehrman articulates a historically informed skepticism about miracles and divine intervention, while acknowledging that Christian ethical teachings about loving enemies and caring for strangers have had real moral influence, even if he does not personally subscribe to Christian faith.
Mark Parker goes digging for PVK lore
Q: Where would you be today if you had gone to Fuller instead of Calvin Seminary?
The guest muses that Fuller might have pushed him toward a different denominational path, possibly Presbyterian, but ultimately acknowledges that choosing Calvin kept him within the CRC and connected him to his family's Dutch-Reformed heritage.
Mark Parker goes digging for PVK lore
Q: Now, how do you compare your memory of your grandfather's ministry to your father's?
The guest explains that the grandfather was deeply pastoral and people-centered, while the father combined that care with a broader, sometimes more strategic leadership role; both influenced by a tradition that prioritized loving and serving people, which shaped his own approach to ministry.
