In this episode, Fr. John describes how the Nazis, once in power, pursued a culture war against existing German values and beliefs by attacking Christianity, advancing neopaganism, and elaborating a racist utopia.
In this episode, Fr. John launches into the darkest period of the age of nihilism, Nazi Germany. In it, he explores the conditions of Western culture following the First World War and how they subverted both traditional Christianity and secular human... more
In this final episode dealing with the Soviet Union under Stalin, Fr. John narrates one of the most chilling episodes in the ideological project to apply the transformation-imperative to a nihilistic, post-Christian Christendom.

In depth-intelligent exposition on the history of the faith we have inherited.
It seems to me that we all carry meta narratives around with us but often we do so unconsciously and do not have careful justification for them.

Father John, thank you for this podcast. It is the second Orthodox podcast series on Christian history I will listen to as I journey home. I may elaborate here once finished. I found one flaw in the 2nd or 3rd episode, a clipping of your voice which made it difficult at times to clearly hear important words. It would be best to rerecord that one. Strickland's podcast, in companionship with his two recent books, has been a crucial eye-opener to the history of Europe over the last two thousand years. Both for understanding the nature of Christendom during the first millenium, and the degree to which Christendom changed after the Schism in 1054, with the New Papacy. Highly recommended!

Focused on the historical and ideological narratives of Christendom, the content explores the interactions between faith, culture, and politics across various epochs, notably under communism and during the significant upheavals of the 20th century. The discussions frequently highlight the ideas of influential thinkers such as Fyodor Dostoevsky and Friedrich Nietzsche, providing a rich examination of the tensions between nihilism and Christian thought. Unique in its perspective, the exploration does not only recount historical events but also connects these to the present religious landscape, making it a thought-provoking resource for those invested in understanding the implications of history on contemporary belief systems.
