  • Great content but terrible recordings

Most (all?) of these episodes are recorded live. From what I can hear, the topics and discussions are interesting but it is painfully difficult to follow the conversations because the quality of the recordings is so poor.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Momotaro Community Day Panel
Q: What steps has PNB taken to audit and improve inclusion and representation within the company and its productions?
PNB has undertaken long-term equity work since 2013-14, joined coalitions and anti-racism efforts, diversified its staff and dancer roster, and continually questions who is represented on stage and in leadership to lower barriers and foster a more inclusive culture.
Momotaro Community Day Panel
Q: Can you share examples of how Denshō's work advances inclusion in the AANHPI community or beyond it?
Denshō preserves, provides access to, and educates around authentic stories, enabling journalists, artists, and authors to create works with integrity; they run artist-in-residence programs and partnerships to expand storytelling beyond the West Coast and bring diverse narratives to broader audiences.
Rep 1 - George Balanchine's Jewels (2025/26 Season)
Q: Wouldn't it be dangerous if jewels on the costumes started falling off during performances?
Costume design prioritizes security with heavy headpieces and hand-sewn jewels; the team reviews tiaras and headpieces before each show to ensure they stay secure during turns and leaps.
Rep 3 - Kent Stowell's Cinderella (2025-26 Season)
Q: I was curious that I didn't realize that Prokofiev had returned to the Soviet Union in the 30s, which of course was the time of the Stalin purges. I'm just wondering if you know anything about what prompted his choice to do that.
The speaker suggests that Prokofiev's return to the Soviet Union in the 1930s was likely due to a combination of family ties and professional opportunities, though he admits lacking exhaustive details and notes opportunities in the West were not always available. This move influenced his later works and the way composers engaged with Russian institutions.
Rep 5 - Giselle (2025/26 Season)
Q: How many different principal dancers play Albert and Giselle, and do they always dance together?
There are five couples who have performed the roles in the current cycle, with some actors rotating across shows; however, once a couple is assigned for a run, they tend to stay together for the duration of that run to maintain chemistry and continuity.
