  • No stalling

If you’re a committed consumer of racing, or simply a more casual fan, you need drilling rights to this podcast. Happily, they’re easily secured.

Whether it’s the eponymous and always excellent Luck at the helm, or one of his merry-go-round of affable understudies, this show assembles an eclectic combination of the most salient and apposite opinions in the sport, invariably straight from the horse’s mouth, and rolls them out in lucid fashion, with a Partridgean reference seldom far away.

This is the most varied and interesting Racing show by far

Had a proper laugh at the Evan Williams commentary

He’s clearly under the impression that he’s dealing with the stewards at Ludlow rather than the law.

This is my goto show. As a racing enthusiast I listen religiously. Nick is a great servant to the sport. Just listening to today’s broadcast from Melbourne. The quote that jumped out to me was the ‘wagering and racing go hand-in-hand. Wagering funds racing and we’re in a good place for the sport’. The Australians (and the French) have a pair mutual betting system that funds prize money and the sport in general.

My only criticism of Nick and the other racing podcasts is that they are beholden to... more

  • Sales

Whilst I really like this podcast I’m bored of hearing how well the sales are going. The cost of living crisis in this country is real and the last thing I need is hearing how much money the billionaires have and are spending. Can’t wait until you talk about actual racing.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep 1588 - The Champ is BACK!
Q: What did Sovereignty need to win the Whitney, and did he get it?
Sovereignty needed a fast-paced early race with sustained pace and the ability to kick from the back; the setup with four rivals driving hard early allowed him to unleash a strong finish, confirming his championship quality when given the right conditions.
The Saturday Edition - Ep 203
Q: What else is remaining on the Mellon bucket list after this race at Ascot?
The trainer explains the aim is to win another Melbourne Cup and then return to Royal Ascot, with ongoing plans to continue chasing major targets while maintaining high performance.
Ep 1583 - The Jockey Club leaves the RCA
Q: What could the new organization alongside Ascot look like?
It would separate operational governance from political representation, creating a body that can represent racing more effectively at the BHA level and coordinate with major partners like Ascot, while others decide whether to join.
Ep 1583 - The Jockey Club leaves the RCA
Q: What reforms is the RCA preventing, in your view?
The key issue is representation at the BHA member level and constitutional framework; without that, fundamental decisions about the fixture list and the size of the foal crop are not adequately addressed, and that blocks meaningful reform.
Ep 1583 - The Jockey Club leaves the RCA
Q: What was the final straw that made The Jockey Club decide it couldn't remain in the RCA?
It wasn't a single event; it was a prolonged period during which they sought full political representation at the constitutional level, which the RCA governance did not provide, prompting the decision to leave.
