  • I wasn’t able to listen to this one

Hi there, Was anyone else able to listen to the January 26 episode, entitled, “Adressing the Omicron Variant SARS-CoV-2?” I’m a religious listener and would still like to hear this one but every time I try to open a notice pops up saying that the episode is temporarily unavailable.

  • Interview Titles

These audio interviews are great however I would like to make a observation/recommendation. My observation is that in most cases when deciding which podcast to listen to the topic is more important then the author. Because of the format of the podcast listings in iTunes, the author is always visible, but the topic is almost always truncated. Therefore, my suggestion would be to list the topic title before the author in the list of available podcasts.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

NEJM Interview: Amanda Banks on concerns about a potential association between GLP-1 receptor agonists and restrictive eating disorders.
Q: How common is off-label use of GLP-1 agonists without diabetes or obesity, and where do people obtain these drugs if not indicated?
There is data showing rising off-label prescribing to individuals without obesity or diabetes, and some patients obtain GLP-1 medications through compounding pharmacies, which may escape standard reporting and oversight.
NEJM Interview: Amanda Banks on concerns about a potential association between GLP-1 receptor agonists and restrictive eating disorders.
Q: Dr. Banks, to start, approximately how many people in the United States are taking GLP-1 receptor agonists?
There are tens of millions of adults in the United States using GLP-1 receptor agonists, with estimates suggesting about one in eight adults based on available data, reflecting substantial overall use.
NEJM Interview: Amy Stimpfel on a new policy that would cap loans for graduate nursing and other students.
Q: What data exist to support or challenge the borrowing risk for graduate nursing students relative to other professions?
Available data are limited and not disaggregated by profession; the analysis presented uses debt-to-earnings ratios and shows graduate nurses may have a favorable return on investment, suggesting the data do not clearly justify the lower cap for this group.
NEJM Interview: Amy Stimpfel on a new policy that would cap loans for graduate nursing and other students.
Q: Why are graduate nursing students categorized differently under the proposed loan caps, and what is the policy intent behind these changes?
The policy aims to restructure loan limits by creating two tiers, but the current distinction leaves graduate nurses in a lower-cap category; the discussion highlights that this categorization relies on an older definition and may not reflect the actual costs and education pathways for nursing today.
NEJM Interview: Danielle Jones on the development of tools to help family physicians address social determinants of health and advance health equity.
Q: What needs did the AAFP aim to address when it created the Every One Project?
The initiative sought to establish organizational infrastructure to explicitly tackle social determinants of health, health equity, and diversity in medicine, culminating in the Center for Diversity of Health Equity to coordinate actions and address clinicians' frontline challenges.
