  • I wasn’t able to listen to this one

Hi there, Was anyone else able to listen to the January 26 episode, entitled, “Adressing the Omicron Variant SARS-CoV-2?” I’m a religious listener and would still like to hear this one but every time I try to open a notice pops up saying that the episode is temporarily unavailable.

  • Interview Titles

These audio interviews are great however I would like to make a observation/recommendation. My observation is that in most cases when deciding which podcast to listen to the topic is more important then the author. Because of the format of the podcast listings in iTunes, the author is always visible, but the topic is almost always truncated. Therefore, my suggestion would be to list the topic title before the author in the list of available podcasts.

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

NEJM Interview: Deirdre Tobias on the 2025–2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, including areas of confusion and contradiction.
Q: How should clinicians approach dietary advice under these new guidelines?
Clinicians should play a central, well-informed role in conveying evidence-based dietary guidance to patients, ensuring consistency across care and leveraging available nutrition resources to support healthier choices.
NEJM Interview: Deirdre Tobias on the 2025–2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, including areas of confusion and contradiction.
Q: What changed in the latest cycle regarding the scientific review and how the guidelines were produced?
This cycle marked the first time the departments rejected the scientific committee's report and conducted their own updated reviews in the background, a move that disrupted the usual process and sparked controversy about the final recommendations.
NEJM Interview: Deirdre Tobias on the 2025–2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, including areas of confusion and contradiction.
Q: What process does the federal government typically use for updating these guidelines?
The process is congressionally mandated to occur every five years, with Agriculture and HHS coordinating the framework; a scientific committee then reviews evidence and prepares a report, which informs the final guidelines though it is not the public-facing document.
NEJM Interview: Jatin Vyas on the effect of corporatization of academic medical centers on medical education and trainee development.
Q: Finally, how could institutions better protect trainees from negative effects of corporatization going forward, and is there a role for policy makers?
There is no simple solution, but leaders should return to the roots of academic medicine—prioritize patient care, education, and curiosity, with reforms in funding flows and governance to align incentives with societal needs.
NEJM Interview: Jatin Vyas on the effect of corporatization of academic medical centers on medical education and trainee development.
Q: Dr. Vyas, could you start by talking a bit about the history of academic medicine? What were the original goals of establishing university-affiliated hospitals?
The original aim was to combine patient care with research and education so that each could inform the others, training the next generation of physicians while advancing clinical science.
