Extraordinary, Mysterious, and Impossible Experiences, with Jeffrey Kriple
Q: What practical steps can humanists take to engage with these topics in public discourse?
He suggests more inclusive conversation, public engagement, and integrating personal experiences with theory to broaden the impact of humanities research.
Extraordinary, Mysterious, and Impossible Experiences, with Jeffrey Kriple
Q: What primarily fascinates you about these 'impossible' experiences?
Jeff Kripal explains that the fascination lies in experiences that defy current ontologies and epistemologies, revealing a need for a pluralistic approach that respects individual experiences while remaining critical.
Aycee Brown, "Embody Your Magic: Create the Life of Your Dreams Through Astrology, Numerology, Mediumship, Metaphysics, and Human Design" (HarperOne, 2026)
Q: How did you decide to integrate multiple disciplines like astrology, numerology, and human design into one work?
They are presented as complementary tools that address different aspects of the self. Astrology explains the 'who, what, where, why,' while human design explains the 'how.' Each modality informs the others to guide readers along a journey of self-discovery and practical change.
Aycee Brown, "Embody Your Magic: Create the Life of Your Dreams Through Astrology, Numerology, Mediumship, Metaphysics, and Human Design" (HarperOne, 2026)
Q: Can you describe the origin of the book and how it evolved from your initial concepts?
I started with Instagram channeling for 75 days, captured the material in a Google Doc, and then expanded it into a full proposal after realizing the book could be more than a single modality. The process involved testing ideas with a publishing pro, aligning the concept with a structure, and ultimately discovering that the combined modalities form a cohesive pathway rather than a scattered collection.
Stephen Grosz, "Love's Labour: How We Break and Make the Bonds of Love" (Vintage, 2026)
Q: To the extent that one can know one's motivations, what motivated you to write this book?
Both of my books, my first book, The Examined Life, and this one, Love's Labour, come from my personal experience as an analyst, but also from where I am in life; I started writing at age 50, took another decade, and wanted to convey the lived experience of psychoanalysis and the intimate experience of love in a way that readers could connect with their own lives.
