  • Setting me up for Success

I decided back in April that I was gonna move to Nashville in August, and since then I have been listening to this pod nonstop. I’ve got half a notebook filled up of all sorts of helpful tips and ideas that resonated with me. This podcast has been such a huge help. I don’t feel like I’m TOTALLY going in completely blind. Appreciate you guys so much.

  • A Podcast We All Need

These conversations provide a unique glimpse into the rich tapestry of experiences that shape drummers' journeys, making for compelling listening.

Sometimes the drummers seem to be bit a bit out of touch but the hosts always do a really good job of making the conversation relatable.

I would love to see this podcast continue to grow and expand beyond just Nashville to include more popular drummers as there aren’t too many podcasts that do that.

Also, Nathan is, literally unbelievable on drum... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Tom Kinka: Persistence & Idiocy, On Tour w/ Lecade, Stick Trick Mastery, Drum Lessons & Mentors
Q: How did you break into Lecade's band and transition from Broadway to touring with a younger artist?
He was invited to learn the songs on short notice, learned Ableton quickly, and used mentors in the Lecade camp to prepare; a key moment was recognizing opportunities even when subbing, and leaning into the belief that Broadway would coexist with touring work.
NDP PANEL: Breaking into Broadway (2/16/26)
Q: How important is reading charts versus memorization for Broadway gigs?
Knowing the material and being able to read charts helps, but the key is being able to follow others and adapt; you should learn the record first, then adjust to live performance with the band.
Billy Joe Freeman: On Tour w/ Dustin Lynch, Professional Sideman, Texas Roots, Gig Triangle, Home Recording
Q: Can you discuss your role as MD and how that has evolved with Dustin Lynch's team?
Freeman explains the evolution from being a direct band member to stepping into the MD role when the former band leader left, emphasizing collaboration, clear communication, and setting a shared vision for how the live show should flow, including pre-show routines and show pacing.
Andrew Besl: Lessons in Gratitude & Forgiveness, Relationships & Self-Discovery, Music City Mayhem, Role of a Studio Drummer
Q: If you had one piece of advice, life advice, not drumming advice, that you would give to an impressionable young mind or an impressionable young you, what is it that you would tell them?
Learning the power of gratitude and forgiveness are probably the most valuable lessons that you can learn. Be grateful for everything that's ever happened to you, good or bad.
Collin Dobbs: On Tour w/ The Bellamy Brothers, Preparing for the Big Gig, AI & Social Media, Landing Endorsements
Q: What do you want to do after your gig with the Bellamy Brothers?
Collin expressed his interest in getting into studio work while continuing to play live and improve his skills.
