We are continuing through the Life, Death, and Meaning with Beowulf and Boethius course that I led in the Fall of 2024 with the J.R.R. Tolkien's essay, "The Monsters and the Critics," in which he argues that Beowulf is best approached as fantasy.

Is quite good at identifying themes and tracing relationships between various works. Recommend most of the episodes that deal with C.S. Lewis - looking forward to till we have faces. At its best dealing with these sort of texts. Weaker when looking at political theory/ broader subjects in society when it goes beyond literature.

This was a helpful distinction for me, and it opened up a whole new category in my thinking of what makes something truly beautiful. Thank you and keep up the great work... more
I have gotten so much from this show, particularly the episodes about Kierkegaard. I’d been wanting to read his work and Andrew does an excellent job making his arguments plain in a clear way. You can tell he’s excited about the ideas and eager to share them. My one humble suggestion, as someone new to some of these concepts, would be to slow down slightly when explaining theoretical concepts. Obviously no one can change their speech easily, but I find myself wanting to listen on .75 time. Cheer... more
If you’ve ever wanted to explore philosophy and dig deeper into various stories and topics, this is for you! Andrew does such a great job in breaking everything down where I can actually understand the topics he discusses!
