What role does storytelling have in addressing the opioid crisis? In March, Vermont Public Radio hosted a gathering at the Turning Point Center of Burlington to talk through that question with the team behind My Heart Still Beats .
"When you have anxiety, or chronic depression, your mind is constantly going. And I tried opiates and realized that my brain was just quiet for a little bit."
"When you're told over and over, 'Your child's a problem child — he's bad, he's bad, he's bad, he's bad!' ... You believe your kid's bad."
"There were three things you could be good at: fighting, drinking or sports. So, I stink at sports. I can't fight. But I guess I can drink."

As someone struggling in recovery myself, I identify strongly with these people. I especially encourage those with loved ones suffering from this disease to listen. There is a lot to be learned from these stories.
Kudos to the production team and the people who told their stories!
My Heart Still Beats does an incredible job showcasing the stories and raw experiences of those who know more about addiction and recovery than any of us who haven't experienced it could ever imagine. Done with a very light touch, and they obviously make the interviewees feel very comfortable and safe given how honest they are. Wonderful job shining light on an important and urgent issue.
Finally a podcast that tells my story and my voice. Thank you! #Bravo
This is a well done beautifl and moving series. I highly recommend it to anyone worried about the opiod crisis, and if you are not worried, what rock are you living under?
Well-told personal stories of addiction. The addicts’ telling of how their addiction began, the tipping points, and their ways of rationalizing their behavior are particularly touching and interesting.
