  • This guy is the dumbest smart guy I've had the displeasure of hearing speak. If you want to know what was going on and how racing worked 20 years ago, listen in. The only problem is he keeps trying to have an opinion about today

  • Great Especially Because Hughes’ Lack of British Bias

It’s great to have a British podcast which isn’t obsessed with hyping Hamilton and British drivers. More importantly, it regularly gets legendary guests who speak very openly and say things they’d never say if they were being interviewed during an F1 weekend.

  • Bravo to whoever decided to give Mark H. a feature show.

So much great information from this subject matter expert and he has the time here to go a bit deeper into his observations.

Bryn is doing a great job as host;I feel like MH has been surrounded the last few years by people who you’d be led to believe are being paid by the word.

  • Very good and revealing interview with Mr John Watson. I did not know that John was at dundrade in 55. The BP Motorsports archive has that tourist trophy on their website and it's a fascinating watch. So different from the sport as it is today just watch it and you'll see what I mean.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

George Russell's worst fear... Kimi Antonelli's on his level
Q: How does Antonelli's driving style compare to Russell's, and what does that mean for their championship prospects?
Antonelli's flowing, boundary-pushing style contrasts with Russell's more controlled, calculated approach, suggesting both could win titles but likely with different paths: Antonelli may need to push the limits more aggressively to gain raw pace, while Russell relies on consistency and mind games to pressure rivals.
Will Ferrari snatch the 2026 F1 title from Kimi Antonelli?
Q: What's the best qualifying lap you've watched since 2000, and why does it stand out?
Mark highlights several laps, noting that Singapore 2019 by Charles Leclerc stood out for its near-wall proximity and full commitment, while other laps by Vettel, Hamilton, Verstappen, and Leclerc are also contenders; the defining trait is the blend of risk, control, and precision that creates an unforgettable moment.
Why Verstappen at the Nürburgring was awe-inspiring in a way F1 can't be
Q: How do they evaluate so many different upgrades as opposed to one at a time?
With hundreds of sensors and data streams, teams analyze loads, speeds, driver feedback, and simulations to converge on a holistic upgrade path, recognizing interdependencies among components.
Why Verstappen at the Nürburgring was awe-inspiring in a way F1 can't be
Q: Surely every team's ICE engine is delivering maximum allowable power. These engines have been capable of delivering more than double the HP than is currently allowed. Is the advantage of the best engines therefore due to how they deploy that power?
Power is capped by fuel flow and regulatory limits; teams optimize within those limits, with significant variation in design and deployment strategies affecting performance.
Why Verstappen at the Nürburgring was awe-inspiring in a way F1 can't be
Q: And he says, one wishes Formula 1 could come up with a set of engine rules that everyone agrees on and stick with them. But looking back at F1's history, we see frequent changes to the engine rules with the one glaring exception from 1966 to 1986, the Formula there. Any thoughts or insights as to how that engine Formula managed to last so long?
The key was limited manufacturer involvement and a lack of sustained factory funding, which kept the rules stable until later decades when manufacturers re-entered and pushed for new tech; eventual sponsorship and regulation changes followed.
