Shannon names Jim Carrey as her comedy North Star, citing The Mask and Ace Ventura as formative, and discusses how bold, committed performances in comedy influenced her approach to both humor and emotional truth in drama.
Episode 613 | Shannon Gisela | M.I.A | Etta Tiger Jonze
Q: Did you find, was there a physical aspect to this?
There was a substantial physical component, including stunts and water work, but Shannon had prior athletic training and buildup through rehearsals, which helped her adapt to the demanding choreography and in-scene movements.
Episode 613 | Shannon Gisela | M.I.A | Etta Tiger Jonze
Q: Yeah, so there's a bunch of things I wanna ask you.
Shannon discusses her background in psychology, her experience on set, and how the role of Etta required balancing a revenge-driven arc with moments of vulnerability and growth, including the impact of writing and collaboration with the director and cast.
Episode 611 | Quavo
Q: What's the toughest part of transitioning from music to acting and how do you compare the two worlds?
The most respected part is the commitment itself, treating acting like a long, demanding video shoot that requires consistent focus and a deep belief in the project.
Episode 612 | Peter Mortimer | Director: "The Dark Wizard" and "The Alpinist"
Q: How do you view the three climbers' relationship and their different approaches to climbing?
Mortimer explains that Dean, Alex, and Marc-Andre each represent a distinct ethos: Dean as a driven hybrid with a panoramic, artistic vision; Alex as the analytical, risk-tolerant free soloist; and Marc-Andre as the adventurous, early pioneer whose approach grew naturally from youthful exploration.
