This was a pretty good podcast, I was enthralled but I can’t say exactly why. I thought it would be more horror, but honestly, any of the really short “creepy” stories are told few and far between. And if you’re an audio fiction horror fan, these really aren’t creepy in the slightest. This podcast is a slow burn about a woman hiker logging her journey on a thru hike of the CDT. The main point of this podcast is that she’s hiking alone, often suffering from the social isolation of it all. I think... more
I was honestly hooked from the beginning. It’s a perfect mix of so many genres and I HIGHLY suggest it 👌🏼
Interesting story and fun slow burn spookiness. Main character is really annoying though. A 22 year old girl from Connecticut living in LA who says "y'all" is completely shocked and appalled whenever she runs into unpleasant, shady, right-wing, or even just plain Christian people in rural America, while hiking alone. She seems kinda stupid? Not to mention so whiny about everything. Other than her personality though the story is really cool and I loved learning about thru hiking, lots of interest... more
Overall, I enjoyed this story. I’ll likely give it a second listen down the line.
However, I did find the a ting to be somewhat stiff. I couldn’t tell if this was an intentional as part of Monarch’s character or just a lack of experience behind a mic, but it was difficult to get through the first couple episodes until I got used to it.
The story could have benefitted from having a strong editor. Some episodes just meandered with no through-line. Monarch is pretty two-dimensional and it was fru... more
Or maybe just a draft in the corner of the yert... i loved every episode of this, it was tense and terrifying with just vaguely unsettling ghosties (heh) and enough questions to beg someone to go looking for more answers with another listen
