I was pretty desperate to hear content on one of my favorite shows, and sludged through as many of these podcasts just to learn some new tidbits of trivia (thanks Vinton). The female podcasters are … really painful to listen to and don’t provide anything worthwhile to the episode recap. I give all of them credit for making the podcasts but other than Vinton, the other hosts and their occasional guest kept missing the mark with their interpretation of scenes. There’s too much overanalysis from the podcasters that it felt like I was back in 9th grade English class trying to critique a Shakespearean play. Seemed like if they weren’t spoon fed the story or characters, they missed out on appreciating the great writing or storytelling. If not for Vinton and his behind-the-scenes trivia/ commentary, I would have given this podcast 1 star for the constant guffawing.
I did appreciate the insight (thus two stars, not one), but if there is one thing that I really don’t like in a podcast, it’s insincerity. I felt each episode was bloated to the point of bursting with insincere or forced laughter from Liz and Sarah, and that ended up being too distracting for me to continue listening. Hopefully other’s will get some real enjoyment out of this one as there are limited options for Firefly content…it just wasn’t for me.
Love Firefly! Love the deep dive into the episodes. So much great information and great personalities but unfortunately one of the voices gives me a headache after a few minutes.
In this firefly ice cream sundae mix in three scoops of insightfulness, two scoops of feminism and healthy scoop of polyanna, throw on a healthy dose of fandom and you have Mighty Fine Shindig. It may not be your favorite ice cream, but it is done well.
