As a clinical psychologist and a recent guest on Mentally Flexible, I can’t recommend this podcast enough! Tom is an incredibly wise, thoughtful, non-judgmental, and compassionate host and I have really enjoyed and benefited from all of the episodes I’ve listened to so far. Thank you, Tom, for the valuable insights, science-informed guidance, and enjoyable conversations you share here!
I have listened to five episodes and loved them all. As a grad student in clinical psychology, I have learned so much about ACT that I intend to apply immediately to my clinical work. I also really appreciate the openness and honesty of all these impressive researchers and clinicians.
I have been listening for a few years now, and through this podcast I have really developed a love and appreciation for ACT. Tom is a wonderful interviewer, and he hosts several “heavy hitters” in Psychology (such as Steve Hayes or Russ Harris); however, the style of the conversation is such that a layperson can easily comprehend and benefit from. This is one of the few shows of which I listen to nearly every episode. Keep up the good work, Tom!
This podcast has been phenomenal in leading me to great resources in ACT with amazing guests and conversations. Imagine sitting down with the people who’ve theorized and created ACT? The teachers and supervisors who spread the word?! Hats off to Tom and his guests. Great work!!
This is, by far, my favorite podcast through the ACT lens. The guests are well picked and interesting, concepts are broken down and discussed in a digestible way (not always the case with behaviorist lectures or podcasts). I started listening in the later summer and I’ve already purchased 2 books out of the last 3 episodes I heard. The guests are that good. Highly recommend for therapists, future therapists, and even the general public.

The episodes provide a rich exploration of topics related to mental health, specifically focusing on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), emotional regulation, and therapeutic practices. Conversations often feature guests who are experts in psychology, discussing various themes such as trauma, emotional intelligence, and the intersections with parenting, performance, and identity. The unique aspect of these discussions is the emphasis on authenticity and flexibility not only within the therapy room but also in everyday life. This is likely to resonate with listeners who are seeking insightful discussions about psychological practices that blend clinical knowledge with personal growth.
