In which Max and Jeff search for the lost puppy in Werner Herzog's heart of darkness.
Max and Jeff saddle up and kick off the final season of Measuring Flicks with Werner Herzog’s Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht. A weird place to start. An excellent film, if you ask Max. Not so much, if you ask Jeff. But that’s what these conversations a... more
At long last, the conclusion to Max and Jeff’s discussion of Kurosawa’s noir masterpiece, High and Low. It’s the end of an era, marking the beginning of the final chapter—the final screening, if you will—of Measuring Flicks. Tune in to find out more.... more
Max and Jeff just can’t stop watching bangers. This time around, it’s Akira Kurosawa’s taut and masterful High and Low (1963). For the metaphors, cinematography, and shot composition alone, this one’s worth the price of admission. And then there’s To... more
This podcast transcends what might be thought possible from a pair of film nerds talking. Through the exploration of films, it allows us to be privy to deep, honest, unashamed, conversations between friends prompted by engaging with art. In this way, it brings the value of art home in a piquant and tangible way. This podcast is a precious thing, thank you Max and Karl for letting us into this space with you.
If you have ever had a long, late night, passionate… discussion with your friends, you know exactly what you will be getting with a measuring flicks podcast. Karl and Max dive deep and turn over EVERY stone to try to find something to love with every movie. And when they can’t, they throw those stones at the people who dared insult the craft of cinema.
Just don’t ask Karl about Kiefer Sutherland…
One of my favorites to listen to! I appreciate that the content is entertaining and relatable without having to be a movie nerd! (Which I’m not).
This is truly one of the best podcasts I’ve ever enjoyed. Some episodes I’ve listened to over and over. The hosts are knowledgeable and have great voices for podcasting. The virgin suicides episodes are favorite but I’m looking forward to watching the films they have covered that I haven’t seen!
I’ve been listening for about a month now, and this show is great. Some episodes play like well-reasoned analysis of the films these guys watch for the podcast. The other half of the shows are like sitting around listening to two hilariously vulgar (probably drunk) friends tearing terrible movies to pieces...with love.
For fans of cinema and sickos. Love it.
