I have been listening for years. Amazing content. Love these guys and the whole team (Damien and everyone else who helps out). Wonderful! I lived in Alabama until my mid 30s and now live in Boston. Thanks for making the podcast available to those of us who no longer live in Alabama.

  • Owned by Bryan Driskell

Alabama being in the playoff is a joke. They passed Notre Dame after beating Auburn by 7 and then remained ahead after being blown out in the CCP. The first year that the “eye test” and advanced metrics do not favor Alabama we magically decide to push the narrative for resume because “it’s different for the 12 team playoff”.

Defending the decision and the process shows a lack of credibility.

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

RJ Young, from FOX Sports, tells McElroy & Cubelic why he's most intrigued to see Pete Golding & Ole Miss take the field, how many teams can truly win it all, and why the Big Ten vs. SEC debate has been settled
Q: How many teams could realistically win the national championship this season?
The guest lays out a list of six to eight teams as plausible title contenders after initial assessments and early-season results, emphasizing the importance of early games and how rankings shift once teams actually play, while noting LSU and Texas as strong cases and identifying the SEC and Big Ten dynamics as pivotal factors.
RJ Young, from FOX Sports, tells McElroy & Cubelic why he's most intrigued to see Pete Golding & Ole Miss take the field, how many teams can truly win it all, and why the Big Ten vs. SEC debate has been settled
Q: Where do you view the ceiling for Pete Golding and his group this year?
RJ Young explains that while Ole Miss showed potential, the ceiling hinges on sustained strong leadership, quarterback development, and how they perform against top competition, suggesting a realistic path to strong contention if they translate talent into results on the field.
Steve Robertson, who covers Mississippi State for 247 Sports, tells McElroy & Cubelic how people should view Kamario Taylor, where the biggest strengths of the team will be, and why this team needs to get bowl eligible
Q: What word are you getting out of fall camp about how different the offensive line may look?
Robertson indicates the interior should be a strength with players like DJ Chester and Boone anchoring the line, suggesting the group has improved significantly from a year ago.
Jake Trotter, from ESPN, tells McElroy & Cubelic what he learned about Curt Cignetti & how he runs efficient practices, why Indiana will be exciting to watch this season, and where the Hoosiers sit in the Big Ten
Q: What stood out about Curt Cignetti's approach to practice and player development?
Cignetti tends to cut practice time, avoid redundancies, and emphasize efficiency, which keeps players fresh and focused, allowing more time in film study and recovery, leading to improved on-field results.
Eric Mac Lain, from the ACC Network, tells McElroy & Cubelic how Dabo Swinney is in his dream position taking on LSU, who will be contenders in the ACC, and why Clemson upsets LSU this weekend
Q: Finally, how do you view the defense as a whole after key pieces were lost last year?
The defense had high expectations on paper but underperformed; the team is retooling with new contributors and a faster secondary, aiming for more consistency and leadership from the front seven.
