  • Have Hope Again!

I am so thankful that a trainer I was using recommended Mark to me. Now I get to attend his Florida clinic next week and am TRILLED!!! I’ve been trying for 6 years to help my traumatized Paso Fino and it felt like throwing spaghetti on the wall hoping something would stick! I have regained hope that it is possible to help him. He has come such a long way, but I was feeling sad that I was stuck in the 2 steps forward, 5 steps back dance. At my age, I have concerns I could get hurt! Cannot wait to... more

  • Something for everyone in this Gem of a podcast

Thank you Mark and Jenny for your pearls of wisdom and advice through your podcasts! Each episode Mark and Jenny talk through member questions that at the heart of the matter (to me) are all about being able to have your horse with you (as in between the reins or there where you are and following a feel) and being able to interrupt their thought/ influence your horse by having them be ok with what you are asking of them in all manner of environments. I find Mark's advice very real life and helpf... more

  • Mark Langley has changed my approach to horse training fundamentally. Mark explains his training concepts very well and has a website and YouTube channel that provide further information. I have worked both my personal horses through the Challenge Series on Mark's website and they have responded beautifully. They have very dissimilar personalities and are at different stages in life/training. I highly recommend this podcast.

Why Many Horses Fail as Beginners' Horses (And What You Can Do About It)
Q: What are the basic things a horse should be able to do before a person gets on?
A beginner horse should be able to stand quietly, accept basic handling like picking up feet, and move with a calm, willing mindset; but crucially, the horse must also show that it can process pressure, relax and trust the handler before adding riding cues.
Tips with Cantering a Horse
Q: What is the first foundation step to get a Standardbred to canter smoothly when it's been trained to pace?
Start with soft, controlled groundwork: teach the horse to turn well, back up softly, and bend through the reins. Once the horse is relaxed and responsive at a walk, gradually introduce forward movement with the accelerator—the legs—while maintaining loose reins and forward thinking, so the horse learns to follow the reins rather than brace against them.
Do horses have bad days? Or is it a hole in your training?
Q: Do horses have bad days, or is it just a hole in our training?
Both are possible; with better understanding of horse psychology, there will be fewer bad days as training becomes more focused and responsive to the horse's needs.
Do horses have bad days? Or is it a hole in your training?
Q: Should a horse owner be worried by their horse having a lack of expression?
Lack of expression may indicate a horse that is internalized, but it may also be a training issue that can be addressed with engagement and stimulation.
What to do if your horse is uncomfortable with something? Solutions for Uncomfortable Horses
Q: What can Carolyn do to help her anxious thoroughbred be more comfortable with people?
Mark advises using a gentle approach and teaching the horse that fast movements from humans are not threats.
