  • Best Resource for Families Navigating the Process

Is your teen looking to study musical theater or acting at the college level? This podcast is a MUST as it dives deep into the questions (you didn’t know you should be asking) with the faculty at so many incredible programs. It also talks to so many amazing artists who have already gone through school and are working professionally in the biz.

Ok, back to schools. We all know school websites can only provide so much info (some hardly any at all), so how do you know which schools might be a good... more

  • Game Changer!

MTCA has made all the difference in our college audition season (grade 12) and preseason (grade 11). It has given us great insight into schools and helped my student create her college list and feel more knowledgeable before heading into the audition. It’s been a serious game changer!

  • Treasure Trove for MT Artists & Their Families

I started listening to this a couple of years ago when my kid started expressing serious interest in pursuing musical theatre as a career. The college deep dive episodes are one of my main sources for information on BFA/BMus MT programs, and I don’t think there’s anywhere else I can hear the insights that Charlie deftly elicits from faculty. This is a must-listen for MT artists and their families supporting them on this career path. Thank you, MTCA!

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Drake University with Erin Degner
Q: What changes are you most excited about for Drake's program in the next decade?
Erin is excited about ongoing curricular revamps, hiring more MT faculty, expanding dance and voice training, and continuing the NY audition trip to keep Drake competitive and connected to industry professionals and opportunities.
Drake University with Erin Degner
Q: How do you assess applicants in the room—artistic talent versus academics?
The decision is made in the room based on the audition and the student's vibe and potential. Academic requirements to be admitted exist separately, but the in-audition impression (talent and fit) is crucial for determining likelihood of acceptance into the MT program.
Drake University with Erin Degner
Q: Can you describe what applicants need to do in terms of application and auditioning for Drake?
Drake does not require pre-screens; students apply and can audition on-campus (fall or spring) or at Chicago Unifieds, and many also use Get Accepted or Slate for video auditions. The key is to apply first and be accepted to the university before pursuing an audition.
SUNY Cortland with Deena J Conley
Q: What percentage of your students choose to do minors or double majors?
Double majoring is very hard due to schedule conflicts; however, many students do minors (roughly 10 percent), and students can pursue minors by fitting 17 to 21 hours into the program,”
Matt Rodin (National Tour of Company) on Authenticity
Q: How has online content creation intersected with your acting career?
Matt explains that online content is both a marketing tool and a creative outlet; it can be a legitimate path to opportunities when it stays true to the creator's authentic voice and values.
