  • The Tae Kwon Do of Anxiety Management

Both Steve and Lisa have been done thousands of hours of study and practice in their respective fields. They are amazing masters sharing the art of being human. I love how Steve says we should remember that “we are only human sized”. Selah! The powers as Walter Wink says will continue to push out the sumo ring of human sized-ness but it’s worth the fight . He is God we are not.

  • Keeps differentiation top of mind

This is one of my favorite podcasts. Steve, Lisa, and their guests do a great job at helping me remain Human sized. They also teach tools to help stop the spread of anxiety while remaining connected to the person feeling anxious. It’s a great podcast to learn how to better communicate with yourself, others, and God. Highly recommend this pod and Steve’s books!

  • Practical, compassionate, open

This podcast fuses the reminder of deep spiritual truths with tremendously beneficial insights from psychology, neuroscience, etc., in a way that is not prescriptive or moralistic, but humble, open to doubt, questions and mystery, and truly offers a space space for listeners to learn, explore, question and take away practical tools - no matter where one is on their faith journey.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Spiritual Growth and Emotional Resilience with Carla Harding, Brian Heasley & Alicia Britt Chole
Q: How do you learn when it's appropriate to ask for a need, and when a need is a real legitimate need in the context of relationships?
It's important to differentiate between advocating for a need and demanding it. Advocacy is a brave expression of desire, whereas demanding it suggests you're not okay without it, which can indicate deeper issues.
Dr. Alicia Britt Chole on Discovering Faith's Dual Nature
Q: What was your first experience as a follower of Jesus with that kind of existential moment?
Dr. Chole describes a moment of intense fear and doubt while sitting on a park bench, realizing her grip on faith and how God holds her tightly.
Clarissa Moll and Steve Cuss on Power Dynamics, Faith, and Inclusive Leadership
Q: How do you distinguish between appropriate hierarchy within a workplace and dysfunctional bigness for young people?
You can give authority as a test balloon to help them grow, but it's also important to stay curious about their demands.
Clarissa Moll and Steve Cuss on Power Dynamics, Faith, and Inclusive Leadership
Q: How do you address the bigger, smaller dynamic that plays out in a workplace with men and women?
As a general rule, if one third of the room can feel like they have allies, that's a good goal. You can ask people their experiences or pull someone aside to check in.
Beyond Self-Help: Real Spiritual Formation with Dr. Kyle Strobel
Q: Could you give us an example from your own life, Kyle? When you made a shift from chasing Bible knowledge to actually relaxing into God's presence?
Kyle discusses the importance of bringing honest emotions, such as anger, to God in prayer rather than trying to manage them or clean up his life before approaching God. He emphasizes the shift from a past-tense prayer life to one where he brings his current feelings directly before God for healing and understanding.
