  • Love the malty boys, more DB BW please

Been listening to the malty boys for a while now, but this last year I really appreciate having some humor to get me through what was a rough year for me. Listened to a lot of back log over the last year in addition to all of the new stuff. While I love the NA exploration you guys have done, I’ve been loving the gauntlet of barleywines for Stephen to enjoy.

  • I listened to this podcast and all I got was a tummy full of 23 year old whales

When I first started my malty journey in 2019, I was young in shape and naive. IPAmaxxing and mogging on beer amateur jesters. I met a woman and she asked, hey what’s this podcast? That Mr. custard sounds like a smart and funny guy!”

Fast forward as I drink a 2003 arrogant Bastard as I write an alimony check, my wife took the family to Columbus to be Mrs. custard. Darn you Michael Gabriel! All I got in the divorce were the 2000s white whales so I can drink along with the Alex/Stephen old money ... more

  • To the good times wasted having good times

Long time listener. Just wanted to say thank you for the content fellas. My wife n I have been in the craft beer game for quite some time. A little back story, she worked at the Ballast Miramar (pre-sale) and I worked for a craft beer distributor in Ohio. This would have been 2012-16’ish. We now have a little one and can’t keep up with all the industry news so we mostly get all the gossip from you guys. We still try and hit up local breweries throughout our travels to see what is going on in loc... more

  • A cheugy millennial podcast for Uncs about a dead culture or something

From what I see on Ploddy (it’s a Gen Z social network yall aren’t allowed) these guys talk about “craft beer,” which is apparently some long dead culture where they drink alcohol? I’m not sure what that is, I’ve never seen beer before. I don’t know what “barleywine” is, but I think my parents had wine at their wedding maybe? I have had a raisin before, they talk about that a lot too. I don’t know. They’re funny but they’re SOOOOOO old (they killed off the only character that wasn’t 40, it’s sad... more

  • Bring back Michael to mediate

Bit worried about the format wars that’s developing between Steven and Alex, it’s horrible when your parents fight. Nonetheless, this is the only beer podcast you need, assuming you have that need.

I sent Alex some uk non alcohol beers but I don’t think they got there as I may have misdeclqred them - oops and sorry

Batch 314: Keeping Together Battles The Barrel-Aged Robots
Q: Lil Mustard asks a food-related absurd question about custard and mustard family trees; how would you respond?
They discuss the fanciful lore of custard and mustard with humor, offering a playful, imaginative back-and-forth rather than a concrete answer, emphasizing the show's lighthearted tone.
Batch 302: Sober Due Diligence
Q: Alex, I felt like this was appropriate for you since I thought Blueprints was a restaurant, so I don't know what's really happening down there, but you do.
Shout out to Smokin Jays. The original location is in Poway, but if you want some good barbecue that is not super expensive relative to barbecue, I would say that would be solid.
Batch 298: Oops! All White Whales
Q: What were some of the bullshits for the New York Times restaurant list?
They explained their algorithm for how they compiled it, saying innovation and plating were part of the rubric.
Batch 258: The Mailbag Returns
Q: When are you two going to drink beer again?
Once Alex is better and Michael is settled in Ohio, they plan to resume drinking beer for the podcast.
Batch 259: The Alex and Stephen Beer News Hour
Q: What is happening with your health, particularly regarding chemo?
Alex explains that he has received good news regarding his DNA marker test but still has metastatic tumors in his lungs that may require surgery in the future.
