  • I’m sold

I’ve been a skeptic listener since about a year ago. Listening to few episodes and missing more. With Today’s episode with Wandile the guy from SA agriculture as a guest I’m sold. To me the show has been more focused on international markets which isn’t a bad thing but I’m more interested in SA economy as an aspiring entrepreneur who wants to do business in SA.

Keep up the insightful good work you guys!

Hey guys! Thank you for the educational content. It’s made a huge difference in my investing education in such a short space of time. Your candid and concise approach makes it easy to stay attentive. Most of all, thanks for always making an effort to respond to us listeners via Twitter and via email. It’s difficult to do what you do and still be available for peoples questions and opinions. Keep it up!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Magic Markets #278: Aylett & Co. on Alcohol Stocks
Q: What is causing the volume declines in alcohol, structural or cyclical?
The guests argue that the causes are mix of structural shifts like generational changes and GLP-1 drug impacts, but the declines are largely cyclical in the short term due to inventory cycles and affordability pressures, creating investment opportunities rather than terminal declines.
Magic Markets #264: Portfolio Positioning for the AI Epoch (with David Eborall of SaltLight Capital)
Q: How does SaltLight incorporate AI into its research and operations?
The team uses AI agents to handle junior research tasks, transcripts, filings, and some operational work, enabling greater efficiency and faster insights while maintaining human oversight for investment decisions.
Magic Markets #264: Portfolio Positioning for the AI Epoch (with David Eborall of SaltLight Capital)
Q: What led SaltLight to abandon traditional growth/value buckets and adopt an opportunity maximalist approach?
David explains that the past five years in South Africa demonstrated the limitations of one-asset-class or one-market mandates, and that broader flexibility allows the fund to pursue the best opportunities wherever they exist, within regulatory boundaries.
Magic Markets #257: Investing in Copper with Mesh.Trade
Q: How much more runway do you think we have in the metals allocation space for investors?
The allocation to metals in retail portfolios is likely to increase, especially as institutional investors face restrictions. Many portfolios currently lack adequate exposure to metals like copper and silver.
Magic Markets #257: Investing in Copper with Mesh.Trade
Q: What is the thinking at Mesh around the thesis on copper?
Mesh has decided to launch a copper product based on demand for direct exposure to commodities like copper given the energy sector's growth.
