  • Facts? Not so sure

Alec is prone to repeating Trump “alternative facts”, most recently that China has no wind power when they actually have over 600 GW! What kind of financial journalist doesn’t read the Economist - “The idea that China abjures wind power at home is just nonsense—it leads the world in wind capacity. That it sells a lot of turbines elsewhere is good business.” Nov 3, 2025

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Willem Els: Mkhwanazi’s Mexico warning, the R1-billion bust - but no boots on the ground
Q: Yeah, I think we should heed to his caution. Of course, they got much more information that we will ever have. They have the intelligence and all the other reports. They have the sharing of intelligence. That is what is important for us because it is transnational. The bus on your, especially your cocaine, you're at the airport and so on.
The host asks about recommendations based on the drug study, emphasizing intelligence-sharing and transnational cooperation; the guest responds by stressing the need for multi-agency collaboration, better information flow, and practical strategies that extend beyond police action to include broader societal and governmental engagement.
BN Daybreak: Bafana Bafana makes history, Phala Phala updates, and the AI chip boom
Q: What phala phala secrets could finally be forced into the open if the inquiry goes ahead?
The discussion suggests potential disclosures related to the origins and handling of funds, which could implicate public-sector oversight and calls for greater transparency, depending on what the inquiry uncovers, including how funds moved and who authorized actions.
Solly Moeng: Phala Phala “protection” for CR, spate of political killings, and why I left ActionSA
Q: Solly, why did you leave ActionSA?
He explains that inner-party constraints and the need to maintain his own voice and integrity led him to leave, choosing to remain true to his principles rather than stay in a space where he felt unable to speak openly.
BN Power Lunch: Joburg's Budget crisis, the $3tn IPO wave, and what it means for SA markets
Q: Could this volatility hurt those initial public offerings? What's going on?
Volatility could dampen enthusiasm for new listings by putting higher price pressure on speculative assets, but some observers argue that strong underlying growth in AI and tech could still attract long-term investors, albeit with heightened risk and volatility.
Joburg audit setback exposes R9.5bn bad debt burden
Q: What was the most alarming part about the Auditor General's report?
The most alarming aspect is the city carrying 9.5 billion rand in debt with insufficient funds to address the infrastructure backlog, which has ballooned to about 200 billion rand, signaling deep governance and financial management problems.
