从17世纪开始，主要受到中国元素影响的“中国风”吹遍欧洲，成为当时备受追捧的 “洛可可”风的一个侧翼。应该强调的是，所谓“中国风”并非真正的中国艺术，而是当时欧洲人对于遥远东方的一知半解的想象。1750和60年代是英伦“中国风”发展的高峰。虽然在1840年代以后，中国风终归沉寂，在今天的英伦，还有遗迹可寻。
