  • Getting ready for hoops season

First of all, thank you for putting so much content out there about MSU sports. I tuned in for the first time in a while as it’s been a long year as a Michigan State football fan, and I was looking forward to turning the page and hearing a little excitement about hoops, after going to the first game against Colgate. Yes the basketball team has things to work on, but as a Michigan State fan, the team has a couple exciting freshmen, pretty good returning core, and I think fans in general are ready... more

  • Solid

A very die hard fan as a host. I am also die hard but not as biased as Matt is. I wish he would be more realistic at times. This basketball team could go 6-5 just as easily as 11-0 down the stretch. I think 7-4 is much more likely. There’s still obvious holes in this team which Matt heavily ignores. Great morale boost if you like to hype MSU up

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

RISING STAKES: Can MSU football recruiting KEEP Gideon Gash in the fold?; MSU basketball Big Ten opponents
Q: Not too long ago to come to Michigan State, but we got a question here, why is the staff not going after Gideon Gash as much as they have other in-state recruits?
Corey asserts that MSU is indeed pursuing Gideon vigorously and that the decision will come down to money versus other factors like family and fit; the staff is in position, and Gideon's offers from multiple big programs keep MSU competitively in the mix.
MOMENTUM: Michigan State football recruiting SURGES as Ohimai Ozolua, Jack Carlson COMMIT early
Q: Do you think they're spending more NIL long term on prep ranks or a mix?
It's a mix, but NIL likely plays a bigger long-term role in retaining and attracting players, with a strategy that looks to future-proof by targeting higher-profile transfers and a steady influx of recruits, including Carlson and Ozolua.
MOMENTUM: Michigan State football recruiting SURGES as Ohimai Ozolua, Jack Carlson COMMIT early
Q: The first year that you think Michigan State will have quote unquote, upper echelon quarterback play in East Lansing is what year?
Best case is the year after this one, with Alessio Milovojevic showing leadership and later progression possibly by Cade Kaufman stepping in, but realistically it may not be until 2028 or 2029 when the offense has time to mature and the roster includes more developed players.
RIDICULOUS: How NCAA Tournament expanding to 76 teams SCREWS teams like MSU basketball; MSU football
Q: Where would you like to see the most growth in this upcoming season for MSU football?
I'd like to see the most growth in the trenches, especially the offensive line, with pass rush coming in as a close second; solidifying those lines would dramatically improve the team's consistency.
CRUCIAL ADD: Tom Izzo adding Anton Bonke, retaining roster makes for HUGE off-season; MSU football depth chart
Q: Grade Michigan State Basketball's Off Season.
The consensus is a B-plus, with arguments that MSU made solid mid-tier improvements and developed players well, but there was skepticism about whether any single addition could push them into national title contention.
