Great idea as a kind of online book club. Jayne and Paula are easy to listen to and I enjoyed their informal style and obvious knowledge. I look forward to future episodes.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 83 - Hannah Kent Author Talk 'Always Home, Always Homesick'
Q: How did the discovery of Agnes Magnusdóttir's story shift your writing trajectory?
Her story became the haunting engine of Burial Rights, showing how gaps in history invite storytelling and how an outsider perspective can offer a fresh interpretation of a historical figure.
Episode 83 - Hannah Kent Author Talk 'Always Home, Always Homesick'
Q: What role did the people around you play in shaping your development as a writer?
Teachers and mentors in Iceland encouraged my writing, and the support from individuals in both Iceland and Australia reinforced my belief that storytelling could bridge cultures.
Episode 83 - Hannah Kent Author Talk 'Always Home, Always Homesick'
Q: Can you tell us about your first weeks in Iceland and how that experience influenced your writing?
The isolation and culture shock pushed me toward reading and writing as a way to understand and survive, and those early months cemented for me that writing could become a path to meaning.
Episode 89 - Fleur McDonald in conversation with Nina Campbell
Q: What drew you to moving from mystery to a heavier crime focus with a Kalgoorlie setting?
She wanted to explore meatier themes while retaining the core sense of place and character that defines her work, leading to a four-book contract and a broader crime-writing direction under a new publisher.
Episode 89 - Fleur McDonald in conversation with Nina Campbell
Q: So how do you manage to write so many books in a relatively short period of time?
McDonald explains she writes daily when in the flow, avoids rigid routines, and uses a pantser approach to let characters and settings emerge organically, sometimes producing large word counts in short bursts.
