  • Emotional!

I love this show and never miss an episode but the latest one (ep. 327) had my husband and I in pieces! It was so emotional. I love to hear about the lighthouse infrastructure but the human element to the episodes gives an extra, human dimension, bringing it all to life. Thank you!

  • Climate change

Climate change is a religion, it cannot be proven by any science I know of. Better to stick to lighthouse podcasts. The episode with Sally Snowman was a very dark episode. Not really in keeping with shinning a light. The occult is not a good subject to feature. It’s not surprising it was accidentally erased. You should have kept it erased and forgotten.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Light Hearted Live #4 – Irish light keeper Gerald Butler
Q: How did being in a family of lighthouse keepers shape your childhood?
Growing up around lighthouses instilled a sense of belonging, shared work with other keepers, and a fascination with the sea and safety of mariners.
Light Hearted Live #5: Chris Hall and Tip Koehler, Seguin Island, ME
Q: What is the hardest part of getting any project done at Seguin Island?
The combination of offshore logistics, weather windows, daylight constraints, and the financing required for major infrastructure projects makes progress slow and challenging, often requiring aggressive fundraising and careful planning.
Light Hearted Lite #43 – Richard Cummins, Irish light keeper, part 1
Q: What were the basic duties at the light stations?
Maintain navigational aids, primarily the light and fog signals, plus radar/RF beacons, painting, maintenance, and collecting rainwater for cisterns.
Light Hearted Lite #43 – Richard Cummins, Irish light keeper, part 1
Q: What training did you receive to become a lighthouse keeper?
Training started with apprenticeships at Bailey Lighthouse, then a six-month program in Dunleary covering engines, optics, radio, rope work, firefighting, first aid, and basic hygiene.
Light Hearted Lite #43 – Richard Cummins, Irish light keeper, part 1
Q: How did you first get interested in lighthouses?
I became obsessed as a teen after seeing the Bull Rock and Fastnet, realizing people worked on lighthouses and wanting to become a keeper.
