  • Always enjoyable

I love listening to this. Ray is a good conversationalist, bringing people through the experience. The content is always fresh, and while I know there’s a script, it never comes across that way. I was especially touch by the emotional elements to episode #495. When that family shared their recognition of the richness of the legacy they are stewards over. It was a sweet moment.

  • Consistently good

Particularly liked the interview with Dave Petterson of Domaine de Broglie in Oregon. Lively repartee compared to some of the establishment stiffs.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Podcast 811 – Peter Mondavi Jr, Co-Proprietor, Charles Krug, Napa Valley
Q: How has your relationship with Robert Mondavi influenced your approach to the winery and its storytelling?
Robert and dad reunited in 2004-2005, combining their wines for a collaborative project and auction, which highlighted the importance of family collaboration and shared history in shaping the Charles Krug wines and their legacy.
Podcast 811 – Peter Mondavi Jr, Co-Proprietor, Charles Krug, Napa Valley
Q: What's the most surprising or little-known aspect of decanting you wish more people understood?
Decanting serves two purposes: for very young, bold reds you aerate to soften tannins, and for older wines you carefully decant to remove sediment and let the wine evolve in the glass over time.
Podcast 811 – Peter Mondavi Jr, Co-Proprietor, Charles Krug, Napa Valley
Q: If there's one thing you could change, that was in your power to change in the industry, what would that be?
The most important thing is a stronger, unifying voice amongst California and United States wineries and winemakers, because the industry is very fragmented and would benefit from a clearer, unified representation.
Podcast 807 – Fritz Hatton, Co-Owner, Arietta Wine, Napa Valley
Q: How did Arietta come to be, and what was the pivotal moment in its early development?
Arietta started when Fritz and John Colesgard began with one barrel from the H-Block grapes; the idea to partner and expand came from recognizing the potential of half and then entire blocks, leading to the formal launch in 1998 with the 96th vintage.
Podcast 807 – Fritz Hatton, Co-Owner, Arietta Wine, Napa Valley
Q: Do you hear music when you taste wine, and how does music influence Arietta's wines?
While Fritz says he rarely hears a specific piece of music with a wine, he believes both wine and music expand consciousness and elevate social experiences, and he highlights the brand's musical naming as a bridge between art forms.
