  • This podcast is what’s been missing from my weekly routine!

I listened to an episode this morning about death and life being in the tongue. I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to give this podcast a listen (I just thought it didn’t apply to us, but it does and I was so so wrong)! So thankful for Chelsea and Layton’s “on air” voices which are beautiful, your specific perspectives as man and wife, bringing your personalities and interests into your show, and praying with you guys this morning. I’m a new subscriber for sure!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

129. Rewind: Jason VanRuler
Q: What differentiates those who use past pain as a springboard from those who let it hold them back?
He suggests that the differentiator is the choice to connect—using past experiences to build authentic intimacy and trust rather than retreating into shame or old coping mechanisms. This perspective drives his therapeutic approach and the book's thesis that connection is the key to meaningful recovery.
129. Rewind: Jason VanRuler
Q: How has your personal journey informed your work with clients and the book?
Jason describes a rough childhood and a history of substance use, abuse, and pornography, followed by a pivotal shift after meeting his wife who set boundaries and held him accountable. This catalyzed his recovery and shaped his belief in accountability, vulnerability, and ongoing support as essential for healing.
129. Rewind: Jason VanRuler
Q: First question, can you tell us a little bit about the book? What was your motivation, and what do you want people to experience as they're reading it?
Jason explains that Get Past Your Past aims to provide an accessible, hopeful resource for people seeking to dip into therapy without barrier costs or access issues, emphasizing connection as a core outcome rather than shaming or obscurity. He envisions readers experiencing practical guidance to transform past trauma into healthier relationship dynamics, with a focus on sustaining change through honest communication and accountability.
127. Wade McHargue
Q: Can you tell us what brought you to that place where you felt like God was calling you onto the mission field?
My calling began while I was in college and had a transformative encounter after I witnessed poverty through mission photos; doors closed and I felt drawn to the West Africa region, which aligned with the word Senegal, and confirmations from others solidified that calling.
126. Holy Ambition with L&C
Q: If someone is thinking, well, how do I figure that out? How do I see what that would be in my life?
The first and most important answer would be soaking in scripture and in prayer, and having good mentors to help process that journey.
