「其實，原住民的農業知識原本沒有平澤以為的那麼幼稚。如James Scott在《國家的視角》所說：原住民對當地每種作物的變化都如數家珍，何時播種、要種多深、如何準備土壤，以及如何照顧與收成等等，這些知識都是當地特殊的知識。然而一旦搬遷，且往往遷移到生態環境大不相同的地方，他們擁有的在地知識都變得一無是處，立刻從農業專家變成缺乏技巧、無知的勞動者。」
