  • Good but need hard numbers

Thank you for starting this as there are not a lot of energy focused investment podcasts. The aspects I liked were the broad scope and global view. What was missing was data. I can’t make informed decisions without supporting data. The episode did give me direction on various investment themes to investigate however the podcasts I and the investors I speak with find most valuable give you stats that help frame up the thesis.

  • Informative and easily digestible

Noah’s interview skills made this an easy listen for someone who comes from a non-energy background. Great insights. Especially liked the takeaways recap at the end. Looking forward to more!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Running on empty: How the Middle East war is squeezing jet fuel markets, with Susan Bell
Q: Now, I wanted to start, I quoted a few numbers at the beginning here, but can you just set the scene for us in terms of the price trend that we're looking at for jet fuel since the start of the war?
Jet fuel costs have effectively doubled since the start of the war, driven by supply constraints from the Strait of Hormuz and refinery outages, making jet fuel a high-cost, high-spec product that competes with gasoline and diesel for refiners' output.
Will power-hungry data centers overwhelm the grid? With Fredrik Ellekjær and Victoria Fethke
Q: Can data centers be developed in a way that is grid-friendly, and what would that look like?
Yes, through a combination of on-site generation, flexible load management, and grid investments funded by the data center operators, creating a “bring your own power” style approach that supports grid reliability while enabling growth.
Could Middle East conflict break energy supply chains? With Matthew Fitzsimmons
Q: How should companies think about potential delays and schedule compression as upstream projects evolve in this environment?
Projects closer to start-up face day-to-day slips, while those further out can be compressed to recover some of the float, though overall many projects will experience delays and increased costs, with the magnitude depending on life cycle stage and regional dependencies.
Middle East escalation and the scramble for LNG, with Sindre Knutsson
Q: What has been the price trajectory in Europe and Asia since the start of the conflict and what factors are driving it?
Prices jumped sharply in Europe and Asia due to supply disruption, with Asia seeing even larger spikes because of reduced Qatari volumes and a wider arbitrage to attract cargoes; the market is also reacting to geopolitical risk and insurance considerations. Over time, the dynamic depends on how quickly flows can be restored and how demand responds to high prices.
Is trade key to cutting global emissions? With Jon Erik Remme and Patrick King
Q: Are emissions going up or are they going down?
We are seeing now that emissions are at somewhat of a plateau, but we expect peak emissions to be reached in the next few years.
