This podcast has been in my top 3 most listened for a couple years now, so it’s about time I actually wrote a review! Ella, Tom, and Caroline are wonderful science communicators who have shown me countless new ways to find wonder in the world around us, given me a fantastic example for communicating dauntingly academic topics to the public (even outside of STEM), and helped me out in pub trivia more than once. Most importantly though, they do Review Corner, which I hope will let me finally share... more
I downloaded apple podcasts just to leave this review. I love the enthusiasm the hosts have. There is always so much joy and excitement put into each episode, even when they are talking about serious and nuanced topics. They always show enthusiasm and respect for their fellow hosts even with the playful ribbing, and it’s just so delightful to listen to. I have at this point, binged every episode over the course of two weeks, and I’m heartbroken to have to wait for the next one.
For someone who never considered themself particularly skilled in school, I return to this podcast with joy again and again to listen and learn with the hosts about… well everything. As a perpetual student of life, it’s always a delight every other week to be able to murmer “interesting” and “fascinating” to myself, especially when the hosts are muttering “great word” right alongside you! :)
This podcast has some good facts and the hosts seem to do a good job researching them and presenting them in interesting ways. Increasingly, though, I am finding the tone struck to be the wrong one. For example, in the most recent episode (episode 97), a fact is shared about an indigenous group dying off from an island due to enslavement. The hosts take great delight in this fact and continue to center themselves by enthusiastically imagining being able to correct someone in the future with this... more
As a life-long educator (university mathematics), I absolutely love the joy and deep curiosity that Ella, Caroline, and Tom bring to teaching and learning (across a dizzying array of topics) and the infectious way they share that joy and curiosity with the world. What an incredible team! A brilliant concept brilliantly executed.
I finally caught up over the summer and have learned the agony of waiting two weeks for the next episode. But the wait is SO worth it!
Thank you all!!!
