  • For Teachers and Learners Alike

I found LLE about a year and a half ago and became obsessed. I have since listened to the whole series and every episode is worth the time. As a teacher who loves learning as much as teaching, I cannot recommend this podcast enough. I share many things I learn with my friends, family, coworkers, and my students who love Fun Fact Friday. The only bad thing about this show is that I have to wait two weeks in between episodes, but I get why and appreciate all of Caroline, Ella, and Tom’s hard work ... more

  • Today is a very sad day

Today is a very sad day. I am currently working as a postman, and podcasts are what keep me sane as I walk around delivering letters.

Around a year or so ago, I discovered, via the Lateral tiktok, Caroline, Ella and Tom, and their podcast, and it was an immediate favourite. I’ve been listening ever since, and I’ve loved always having new LLE to accompany me at work.

But today. Today…I caught up. Now I have to wait, along with everyone else, before I can have new LLE beamed directly into my ear... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

103: Sage The Bad Naturalist & The Frog Mushroom Mystery
Q: What are your two leading hypotheses about the frog-with-a-mushroom image, and how would you test them?
The two leading ideas are Froggy Got a Splinter (fungus growing from debris under lifted skin) and Xenomorph Dermis (fungus pushing through from within). Sage describes plans to myth-bust using controlled experiments with latex membranes and small mushrooms to assess surface tension and the plausibility of a fruiting body emerging through frog skin.
103: Sage The Bad Naturalist & The Frog Mushroom Mystery
Q: To start off, can you share your journey from illustrator to science communicator?
Sage explains that the path was circuitous and accelerated by a viral video about Froggy Got a Splinter, plus supportive mentors like Hank Green; the shift happened slowly but the audience response helped legitimize the new career.
100: Everything
Q: What is everything made of?
Everything is composed of ordinary matter, dark matter, and dark energy, with 75% being hydrogen, but ordinary matter only makes up about 5% of the universe.
93: Unsolved Math Problems & Video Game Controllers w/ Ellen Weatherford
Q: Ellen, how do you feel about math?
I expressed great confusion over math before, but I'm taking this opportunity to learn and explain concepts.
Tom, Ella, and Caroline join MFD Spring Break
Q: What is the first rule of Fight Club?
You do not talk about Fight Club.
