I get soured when I listen to this podcast and Kurt mentions his favorite therapist. That guy is far from it. I guess Kurt is blinded as many are as to who that guy really is- don’t believe a word he says about community, when he mentions he doesn’t care what his ward thinks cause he has Tyler and Eric that should tell you quite a lot if only two people out of a whole ward like that guy. Guess everyone else actually knows how Steve really is. Steve’s sense of community is you are welcome….if you... more

  • Shifting emphasis…

I have enjoyed listening to this podcast for the last several years. Some episodes are brilliant and some less so. Recently, I find myself skipping episodes on this podcast more and more. The podcast just feels different than it used to. I think it has become less relevant to boots on the ground leaders and is more about showcasing minority philosophies and viewpoints on the gospel. What I want is more regular leader stories practical tips and advice.

Also I think there’s a heavy emphasis on t... more

  • Called to serve

I have been listening for years and I am not really a “leader” in the church, but have learned so much and share it with the real “leaders” . But I have been serving a mission in South Africa for the past 18 months and I draw upon your content often- thank you!

  • Amazing Podcast

I have been listening to this podcast for years and have never commented on how much I love it! The variety of topics is what I love the most. Every time I listen, I learn something new and feel uplifted. Thank you Kurt for all your efforts and sacrifice! Elder Uchtdorf said “no good thing comes without effort and sacrifice.” Thanks for making this a good thing for so many :)

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Power of the Mentor Mindset | An Interview with James Logan and Bart Warner
Q: What does an effective mentorship look like in your current dynamic, and how has it evolved?
It's become a more reciprocal and flexible dynamic: ongoing conversations, open calls, and a culture of learning through reading and reflection. Bart's willingness to share insights, give feedback on calls, and model leadership—and James's active seeking of guidance and applying lessons—create a sustainable loop of growth for both sides and for those they mentor.
Serving as Bishop, Daughter with Cancer | Ft. Troy Dunn
Q: How did the experience of having a daughter with cancer affect your approach to leadership the second time you served as bishop?
It intensified the sense that life is fragile and reassured me that the church is a hospital for souls where collective support and faith help families survive overwhelming challenges, while still needing balance and self-care.
Serving as Bishop, Daughter with Cancer | Ft. Troy Dunn
Q: What has your leadership journey been like, especially serving as bishop in Florida?
It's been about recognizing humanity in leaders, embracing transparency, and learning to balance spiritual duties with personal and family realities, including periods of self-doubt and the urge to grow from failures.
The Bishop’s Couch: Where Ministry Ends and Therapy Begins | An Interview with Christy Kane
Q: What is the balance between spiritual guidance and therapy in leadership?
Leaders should function as gateways to resources, maintain boundaries, avoid acting as therapists, and know when to refer to trained professionals to protect everyone involved.
The Bishop’s Couch: Where Ministry Ends and Therapy Begins | An Interview with Christy Kane
Q: What new mental health trends are you seeing among church members?
The landscape includes gray divorce among seniors, divorce dynamics in marriages, and the ongoing need for leaders to understand spiritual vs. mental health issues to avoid mislabeling or mishandling situations.
