  • Shifting emphasis…

I have enjoyed listening to this podcast for the last several years. Some episodes are brilliant and some less so. Recently, I find myself skipping episodes on this podcast more and more. The podcast just feels different than it used to. I think it has become less relevant to boots on the ground leaders and is more about showcasing minority philosophies and viewpoints on the gospel. What I want is more regular leader stories practical tips and advice.

Also I think there’s a heavy emphasis on t... more

  • Called to serve

I have been listening for years and I am not really a “leader” in the church, but have learned so much and share it with the real “leaders” . But I have been serving a mission in South Africa for the past 18 months and I draw upon your content often- thank you!

  • Amazing Podcast

I have been listening to this podcast for years and have never commented on how much I love it! The variety of topics is what I love the most. Every time I listen, I learn something new and feel uplifted. Thank you Kurt for all your efforts and sacrifice! Elder Uchtdorf said “no good thing comes without effort and sacrifice.” Thanks for making this a good thing for so many :)

  • New Bishop

I am a new Bishop in a true freshman ward at BYU Provo. This podcast has been my main mentor as I reframe the way I lead, and repent daily. I have learned that keys, priesthood, and leadership, are summed up for me in Facilitate, Empower, & Witness. That was so new and eye opening for me. Thank you for these podcasts.

How to Keep Your Ward Accountable | An Interview with Michael Timms
Q: What are the first two steps to establish accountability in a ward or council?
Agree on the purpose and the key outcomes of the organization, then set clear expectations and norms for how work will be done and how progress will be tracked.
How to Keep Your Ward Accountable | An Interview with Michael Timms
Q: How do you motivate people in volunteer leadership without relying on coercion?
Involve them in setting key outcomes, provide ownership, give positive feedback, and distribute decision-making; support them with tools and training to lead rather than micromanage.
Home Ministering | An Interview with Steve Webber
Q: How does ministering differ from traditional home teaching and visiting teaching?
Ministering is a higher and holier version of those practices, focused on bearing one another's burdens and serving families in a way that adapts to their unique needs.
False: Everything Happens for a Reason | An Interview with Brandon Bennett
Q: How can leaders help people experience Christ's power in their lives without a rigid, step-by-step plan?
By teaching and modeling the Doctrine of Christ, inviting faith, repentance, priesthood ordinances, and reliance on the Holy Ghost, and by recognizing that grace acts in the moment rather than through a fixed sequence. Encourage authentic experiences with Jesus and practical acts of faith rather than checking boxes.
False: Everything Happens for a Reason | An Interview with Brandon Bennett
Q: What should church leaders say to someone dealing with a trial or suffering, and how should they guide the conversation?
Lead with empathy, acknowledge the hurt, avoid pushing esoteric or overly certain explanations, and help orient the person toward Christ and His power through living His doctrine. Focus on supporting the person, mourning with them, and guiding them to access divine strength rather than insisting on a particular reason for the trial.
