  • Disagree

I get soured when I listen to this podcast and Kurt mentions his favorite therapist. That guy is far from it. I guess Kurt is blinded as many are as to who that guy really is- don’t believe a word he says about community, when he mentions he doesn’t care what his ward thinks cause he has Tyler and Eric that should tell you quite a lot if only two people out of a whole ward like that guy. Guess everyone else actually knows how Steve really is. Steve’s sense of community is you are welcome….if you... more

  • Shifting emphasis…

I have enjoyed listening to this podcast for the last several years. Some episodes are brilliant and some less so. Recently, I find myself skipping episodes on this podcast more and more. The podcast just feels different than it used to. I think it has become less relevant to boots on the ground leaders and is more about showcasing minority philosophies and viewpoints on the gospel. What I want is more regular leader stories practical tips and advice.

Also I think there’s a heavy emphasis on t... more

  • Called to serve

I have been listening for years and I am not really a “leader” in the church, but have learned so much and share it with the real “leaders” . But I have been serving a mission in South Africa for the past 18 months and I draw upon your content often- thank you!

  • Amazing Podcast

I have been listening to this podcast for years and have never commented on how much I love it! The variety of topics is what I love the most. Every time I listen, I learn something new and feel uplifted. Thank you Kurt for all your efforts and sacrifice! Elder Uchtdorf said “no good thing comes without effort and sacrifice.” Thanks for making this a good thing for so many :)

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Building Zion Thru Mentors | An Interview with Mark and Adrienne Beck
Q: How does the mentoring program work and how successful has it been?
Mentors from the stake are matched with YSA to provide targeted support. Initially formalized, the program evolved into a more flexible, casual approach that encourages ongoing, life-enriching relationships. About a third of pairings see strong, transformational outcomes, while overall it has positively impacted around 20 lives and counting.
Building Zion Thru Mentors | An Interview with Mark and Adrienne Beck
Q: What culture did you aim to cultivate, and how did you implement it?
We focused on creating a Zion-like culture centered on belonging, love, and service. We held early branch council discussions to define desired culture, invited input from YSA members, and implemented practices like weekly meals, inclusive baptisms, and outreach that met people where they were.
Building Zion Thru Mentors | An Interview with Mark and Adrienne Beck
Q: How did you begin organizing the YSA branch and who asked you to take on this role?
We started as advisors and were asked to serve in the branch presidency after a meaningful invitation from the Southeast Area president, who viewed this as a divinely guided calling. The process involved aligning with stake leadership, gaining revelation, and then saying yes to the assignment.
Supporting a Spouse in Church Service | An Interview with JeaNette Smith
Q: What final encouragement would you give to Bishop's wives out there who are listening in?
She urges wives to prioritize the marriage, view leadership as a joint venture, stay humble about their humanity, and seek help when needed to sustain both the relationship and the leadership role.
Supporting a Spouse in Church Service | An Interview with JeaNette Smith
Q: As far as the book Side by Side, is there any advice on how the book works?
The book is designed primarily for wives, guiding them on how to support a spouse in church service, while also encouraging husbands to engage with the content; couples can read and discuss it together to align motives and strengthen their partnership.
